U.S. Air Force - Agency Wide Director of Operations Sustainment
Location: Pentagon, Virginia
Summary: The Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations Office (AF/A3) at Headquarters Air Force (HAF) is responsible for directing policy and guidance on operational training, readiness, and the employment of air, space, and cyber power across the total force.
Responsibilities:
- The Deputy Chief of Staff (DCS), Operations Office (AF/A3) manages a staff of over 1,128 personnel and ensures the Air Force's operational effectiveness through strategic planning and global force management.
- The Director of Operations Sustainment (DoS) provides executive leadership, management, and oversight for three divisions: Data Digital Enterprise, Enterprise Operations, and Weather.
- Develops and oversees the preparation of testimonies for Congress on operational readiness and other key issues.
- Prepares senior leaders for Congressional hearings and inquiries.
- Develops and oversees the Air Force's position on operational readiness issues under consideration by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and the National Security Council (NSC).
- Represents the AF/A3 at Joint Staff Operations Deputies and JCS TANK meetings.
- Oversees AF/A3 programmatic and budgetary matters within the Air Force Corporate process.
- Directs resource management activities and provides guidance on the planning and execution of the AF/A3's annual budget of $220 million.
- Establishes Centers of Excellence at Major Commands (MAJCOMs) to coordinate software development and prevent redundancies across the Air Force.
Requirements:
Eligibility will be based upon a clear showing the applicant has training, education, and experience of the scope and quality sufficient to effectively carry out the duties of the position. Candidates must exemplify the corporate perspective, leadership vision, broad experience, and character needed in the SES corps.
A. MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (MTQ - NTE 2 Pages Total): A supplemental statement must be submitted separately addressing each TQ with specific examples of relevant experience and accomplishments.
- Demonstrated executive experience overseeing organizations responsible for providing operational forces in response to senior cabinet level officials.
- Demonstrated executive experience leading a large complex operational organization, establishing goals and integrating diverse functional capabilities.
- Demonstrated senior level experience and awareness of national security strategy and the application of aeronautical and cyber operational capabilities.
B. MANDATORY EXECUTIVE CORE QUALIFICATIONS (ECQ - NTE 10 Pages Total): The ECQs describe the leadership skills needed to succeed in the Senior Executive Service (SES).
