The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for presiding over the strategy, evaluation, negotiation of and execution of BeiGene’s business development opportunities. This includes partnerships, licenses, joint ventures, investments, mergers, and acquisitions that fit within the overall corporate strategy, business plan, and product portfolio. This individual will work with a best-in-class team that will manage the process from target screening through the execution of transactions, and will take a leadership role in evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing these strategic transactions that align with the company’s strategic growth initiatives. This position reports to the SVP, Business Development and leads a team of Business Development professionals. The role is ideally based out of San Francisco, CA or Cambridge, MA, but can be located anywhere within the US.
Essential Functions Of The Job
Reporting to the SVP Business Development, the VP will lead development of transaction activities for BeiGene interests in North America and for M&A globally. As a part of the global BD team, the VP will also play a lead / team role in transactions for other territories where appropriate. The focus will be primarily oncology and the transactions may span early research to commercial opportunities. Lead and manage a North American-focused BD team Identify areas of innovation and growth opportunities aligned with BeiGene’s strategy Collaborate with the search experts to identify opportunities in the field of oncology, and other therapeutic areas Leverage a broad industry network to secure the identification of the most attractive partnering opportunities Lead senior cross-functional teams and provide strong project management skills to ensure that information is presented in an unbiased way to senior management for decision-making Provide expertise and design partnering structures tailored to the envisioned partnership Provide outstanding transaction skills through the entire deal-making process to implement attractive deals. Proactively monitor the external business environment and maintain a knowledge base of licensing transactions and other company activities Drive contribution from colleagues for scientific, legal, intellectual property, finance, communication, and commercial and lead term sheet and contract negotiations Promotes BeiGene as the partner of choice at business partnering meetings and scientific conferences
Additional Skills
Bachelor's Degree with 15+ years industry experience with at least 6+ years in Business Development within pharma / biotech, or Venture Capital / investment banking. Scientific expertise in drug development - understanding of assets covered in deals/ alliances Proven track record at sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and closing different types of partnerships from discovery stage assets to commercialization stage Demonstrated supervisory and management skills Demonstrated history of leading international, global, and cross-functional teams and strategic corporate initiatives Strong project management skills, ability to ensure effective/efficient decision making and issue resolution competencies Strong interpersonal skills and ability to multitask and perform under pressure to meet challenging deadlines Outstanding time management and demonstrated delivery of continued high-quality work in a fast pace and dynamic environment Established network of contacts in key academic institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, VC community Ability to work efficiently and proactively, as part of a global team located in different innovation hubs Ability to synthesize and present to senior executives, including Board, a complex set of facts (i.e. scientific, clinical, financial, and market information) to facilitate the decision-making process Outstanding presentation and communication skills Passion for driving projects to conclusion Experience at performing in the context of a fast-paced biotech, multicultural, global organization where working across boundaries and leading through influence are keys to success Self-motivated and professional as an ambassador for BeiGene in the market Strong in science and able to interact with the biotech and pharma ecosystem; to evaluate the science, triage opportunities A team player, fitting the BD team ethos Brings a unique blend of passion for corporate growth and transaction skills, combined with an entrepreneurial mindset

Salary Range: $280,700.00 - $370,700.00 annually

Please note that the listed range reflects the base salary or hourly range only. Non-Commercial roles are eligible to participate in the annual bonus plan, and Commercial roles are eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
