SUMMARY:
The Engineering Manager, P.03 / P.05, is responsible for managing operations and staffing in our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing laboratory, which includes the handling of our clients’ work orders/projects, efficient operation, and staff management. While overseeing the staff in the lab, the Engineering Supervisor must be able to work independently; planning, organizing, and controlling workflow to accomplish all lab functions in a safe and efficient manner; and ensuring timely completion and communication of test results. This role is focused on production and completing projects to meet or exceed customer expectations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the project coordinators to schedule testing work and customer projects and prioritize according to schedule and customer priorities. Monitor the test process through the lab and ensure all testing is completed and meets customer requirements.
- Assist in the maintenance of an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing laboratory and conformity assessment body that tests our customer equipment to international standards e.g. IEC CB. This includes participating in audit activities as necessary.
- Responsible for staff recruiting, scheduling, training, and performance appraisals. Develop, implement, and monitor departmental processes, procedures, and policies; develop measures to track performance and take corrective action.
- Ensure that testing data is generated and reported in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain test results documentation and storage of test data.
- Develop effective work relations on an intra and inter-department level and within the organization.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current regulations and standards, oversee new testing services and methods. Act as subject matter expert in defined product areas.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of the Laboratory Quality System to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Perform direct project work and conduct technical project reviews as required. Provide guidance on the interpretations of Standards requirements, and changes to processes and procedures to meet those requirements. Provide technical advice to engineers in all aspects of test and evaluation activities and report generation.
- Provide technical support to Business Field Sales; develop and maintain sales guides, review quotes, and support sales on quoting. Respond to technical matters and inquiries of field, sales, and operational staff. Resolve problems.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers. Consult with customers on highly complex issues.
- Perform critical error reviews as applicable per lab practices.
- May participate on technical/industry committees, as assigned.
- May manage accreditation programs as required in coordination with other Technical Managers and represent the laboratory in internal as well as external audits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of laboratory testing methods under IEC/EN/UL/CSA safety testing for Electrical Equipment, including most collateral and particular standards. Experience with 60601-1, 62368-1, 61010-1, and 60335-1 required.
- Product Safety testing & certifications according to IEC CB-scheme.
- Understanding of ISO / IEC 17025.
- OSHA/NRTL (USA) and SCC (Canada).
- Knowledge of customer and industry standards with respect to test requirements and reporting of data.
- Knowledge of federal, state, or other regulatory laboratory requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong technical problem-solving and process improvement skills.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and/or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
- 5+ years of related experience in laboratory testing and/or laboratory supervision.
Certifications:
- None Required.

- Environmental conditions may occasionally include: low temperatures; high temperatures; outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind; noisy environments; poor ventilation; and/or small and/or enclosed spaces.
- Physical Demands will constantly include: sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing; and may occasionally include: light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds, and/or medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
Travel Required:
- Ability to travel up to 10% may be required for this position to travel to customer sites.

Salary Range: $107k - 160k. The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
