The GW Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) was incorporated in July 2000 as a not-for-profit, physician-led practice group. The organization functioned as an independent organization in support of The George Washington University School of Medicine and Sciences as a multi-specialty physician practice group. The GW MFA has grown to become the largest independent academic physician practice in the Washington, DC metro region with more than 500 physicians and nearly 200 APP providers.
Position Summary
To provide expert nursing care for an individual or group of patients with complex problems and unpredictable outcomes using knowledge of nursing theories and to assist in the administrative and educational functioning of the unit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivers expert nursing care based on in-depth knowledge and expertise by assessing factors of the patient’s past and present physical, psychosocial, and cultural baseline, health problems, and external support systems which may impact on his/ her ability to cope with current health situation.
- Define a nursing problem list, based on the assessment of the patient, that reflects the consideration of the medical diagnosis and the patient’s problems.
- Define realistic measurable goals related to each problem.
- Develop a nursing plan that is directed toward the optimal resolution of nursing diagnoses and prevention of future problems.
- Evaluate and document a patient’s progress toward goals.
- Collaborates with the appropriate healthcare professionals in implementing a comprehensive plan of care.
- Provide an individualized plan of nursing care that assists the patient in maximizing participation in his/ her care.
- Revise the nursing plan of care and/or goals as necessary.
- Implement appropriate patient education programs to meet individual healthcare needs.
- Initiate discharge planning within 24 hours of admissions.
- Record nursing care using appropriate documentation.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing with commensurate relevant clinical experience.
Licensure
- Certification in a specialty area is necessary
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical experience.
Physical Requirements
- Sit, walk, reach, bend, or twist for long periods of time in a clinical setting.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. as part of the role.
- Regularly exposed to healthcare settings that may require personal protective equipment.
- Requires manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other equipment.
