What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader to join 2U as the Senior Vice President of Security and Runtime Operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and overseeing the overall security strategy and runtime operations to ensure the protection and smooth functioning of our systems and infrastructure.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive security strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging threats, and best practices to continuously enhance security measures.
- Lead and manage security operations teams responsible for monitoring, incident response, vulnerability assessments, threat intelligence, and mitigation strategies.
- Oversee the runtime environment, ensuring its stability, scalability, and reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize system performance and minimize downtime.
- Implement industry best practices for Technology Service Management and governance such as Incident Management, Change Management and Problem Management.
- Define a service catalog and implement improved visibility to the quality of service including status pages and dashboards for key incident metrics (ex: Availability, MTTR, Service Impact, etc.)
- Oversee risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate security risks. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and data protection laws.
- Lead in the development of robust incident response and disaster recovery plans. Lead response efforts during security incidents, ensuring a swift and effective resolution.
- Manage company-wide cybersecurity governance processes, chair the Cybersecurity Steering Committee and ensure the cybersecurity program complements business strategy.
- Coordinate and track all security-related audits including the scope of audits, timelines, auditing agencies, and outcomes. Work with auditors as appropriate to keep audit focus in scope, maintain excellent relationships and provide a consistent perspective. Provide guidance, evaluation, and advocacy on audit responses.
- Examine the impacts of new technologies on 2U’s overall cybersecurity. Establish processes to review the implementation of new technologies to ensure security compliance.
- Build and mentor high-performing teams. Provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to enhance the skills and capabilities of the security and runtime operations teams.
- Foster strong collaborations with internal stakeholders, including engineering, IT, legal, and executive leadership. Communicate security and runtime operation strategies, challenges, and achievements effectively.
Things That Should Be In Your Background:
- Proven track record of at least 10 years in security leadership roles, with a focus on both security strategy development and runtime operations management.
- Strong understanding of IT Service Management and Information Technology Information Library framework with experience implementing systems, processes and control associated with the framework.
- ITIL certification preferred.
- Professional security management certification (CISM, CISSP, CISA, etc.) preferred.
- Deep understanding of security principles, technologies, and protocols, including network security, cloud security, encryption, authentication, and access control.
- Strong leadership and managerial skills with experience in building and leading high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively across different departments and levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex technical landscapes, make strategic decisions, and prioritize initiatives effectively.
While this position is open to remote candidates across the U.S., we will prioritize those who live in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area and who are available to come into our Headquarters in Lanham, MD two days a week.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $250,000-$300,000, with potential bonus eligibility. Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, budget for the position and cost of labor in the market in which the candidate will be hired.
