Head of Private Investment Technology

Job Summary
The Head of Private Investment Technology will oversee the global support and development of technology tools leveraged by Barings’ Private Credit, Real Estate and Private Equity investment teams. This role will lead a global team of software engineering professionals, responsible for building and maintaining internal applications, business intelligence products, data models and vendor product integrations.
This role requires an understanding of technology development and support, private asset markets, evolving business goals in the asset management industry, investment and operational processes, and extensive experience leading a team that has successfully supported investment professionals. The candidate will need experience managing globally dispersed offshore teams and be able to adopt a flexible and urgent approach to a fast-paced environment and changing priorities. This role will report to the Head of Software Engineering.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and mature a high performing internal team of developers and SMEs to drive forward modern investment platform implementations, including internally developed applications, business intelligence solutions, model development, vendor system configuration, quality engineering, testing and change management activities.
- Interpret investment and operational processes for a variety of private asset classes, including private credit, real estate debt, real estate equity and private equity; translate those designs into technical engineering solutions.
- Serve as an advisor to leadership to shape or enhance applications, databases, data models and business intelligence tools for complex business and technical requirements across various groups.
- Offer strategic guidance and expertise to both technical and business leaders in deploying innovative and impactful business solutions.
- Deliver phased product implementations on a regular, prescribed cadence using agile methodologies and tools.
- Work closely with internal Technical Business Management and PMO teams to ensure the execution of plans correspond to what is being promised throughout the project or product lifecycle.
- Coordinate with vendors' product development teams to promote application improvements required by Barings.
- Assist with training and producing documentation for internal users.
- Develop and deploy appropriate support model(s) for various investment teams.
- Liaise with various internal technology and external vendor teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance or equivalent.
- At least 10 years of experience in information technology, 7 years within the financial sector supporting private markets, and 5 years managing teams.
- Strong expertise in private fund accounting and skill in developing and maintaining data models.
- Proven track record developing, supporting and enhancing investment management systems (portfolio management, trading systems, accounting, deal pipelines, etc.).
- Familiarity with industry vendor investment management platforms such as Aladdin, Investran, eFront and DealCloud.
- Strong knowledge of asset management industry, specifically real estate, private credit and private equity asset classes.
- Understanding of the investment lifecycle, including asset origination, underwriting, order management, trade execution and portfolio management.
- Hands on technical experience and deep understanding of SQL and relational database design principles.
- Working knowledge of various technologies, including C#, ASP .Net Core, Angular, HTML, CSS.
- Proficient in data analysis tools (SQL, Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience with Azure Cloud Services, including Azure SQL Databases, App Services and DevOps.
- Good understanding of agile methodologies, tools and processes; experience with AzDo Boards is a plus.
- Creative, analytical thinker with deep knowledge of industry trends and exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Well organized with excellent written communication and presentation skills.
- Capable of thriving in a dynamic environment and quickly adjusting to changing circumstances.
