Manhattan Strategy Group (MSG), a rapidly growing management and social sciences consulting firm based in Bethesda, MD, is seeking a communications expert with strong project management skills for a newly awarded contract to support the U.S. Department of Education. MSG provides consulting services across the federal government in the areas of 1) Research & Evaluation, 2) Marketing & Communications, 3) Information Technology, 4) Training & Technical Assistance, and 5) Program Management. Our federal clients include the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Education, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Labor, Treasury, and the National Science Foundation.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a Deputy Project Director to support a communications contract focused on education statistics. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting and enhancing the execution of a large-scale complex project intended to increase awareness. As Deputy Project Director, you will work closely with the Project Director, Project Manager, and cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of deliverables on time, within scope, and in compliance with contractual requirements.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of communications strategies aligned to client goals.
- Serve as point of contact for the client.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop comprehensive project plans, defining scope, goals, deliverables, and milestones.
- Assist the Project Manager in resource allocation and scheduling to ensure optimal project efficiency. Monitor and manage risk factors to minimize project disruptions as needed.
- Assist in budget development and management, ensuring financial objectives are met.
- Ensure adherence to contractual obligations, government regulations, and compliance standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Implement and oversee quality control processes to ensure deliverables meet or exceed client expectations.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including meeting minutes, change orders, and project status updates.
- Lead communications activities and provide high-quality deliverables that are timely, thorough, and error-free.
- Provide guidance and support to project team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Assist in the professional development of team members through mentorship and training opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in education, communications, social sciences, or a related field with 10 or more years of work experience.
- Proven experience in project management, client management, and communication skills (education writing, media relations, social media, and/or community outreach).
- Deep understanding of education trends. Familiarity with education data a plus.
- Strong leadership, written/verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Familiarity with government contracting, regulations, and compliance standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint and Excel.
- Ability to travel for work, respond to quick turnaround requests, and obtain and maintain security clearances as required.
