About the Position: Children’s Funding Project is seeking a Director of Native Children and Youth Funding to lead and direct the organization’s efforts to broaden access of Native American children and youth to the public fiscal resources that support the programs and services that foster their learning, development, and overall well-being. The Director will lead 1) partnerships with Native-led organizations to build and leverage strong, trusting relationships with Tribal governments and Native-led intermediaries and 2) the development and co-design of strategic financing products, tools and strategies tested for their contextual and cultural relevance to Tribal Nations and Native-led organizational contexts.
As a member of Children’s Funding Project’s leadership team, the Director will liaise with leaders within the organization’s other technical units (Fiscal Mapping, Cost Modeling and Estimation, Sourcing Additional Funding, and Coaching and Capacity Building) as well as with key external partners to advance strategic financing strategies and will serve as a subject matter expert on financing for Tribal Nations and Native communities. The Director of Native Children and Youth Funding will also supervise staff members to carry out the objectives of this team. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Executive Vice President level. Some travel is required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Native Children and Youth Funding team inclusive of defining Indigenous and community-focused objectives, values, and goals for the data management and capacity-building projects and initiatives of the NCYF team that aligns with the organization’s mission and vision.
- Act as liaison between the NCYF team and senior leadership, external partners, and organizations such as Tribal nations, Native-led organizations, and advocates.
- Lead the visioning and co-design of products and tools for Tribal Nations and Native-led organizational contexts with key partners, cross-team specialists within Children’s Funding Project with relevant technical expertise, and/or outside consultants.
- Participate in cross-functional internal directors meetings.
- Represent Children’s Funding Project at key conferences and events.
Supervision
- Build, supervise, and support the professional development of a collaborative, high performing NCYF team, including supervision of at least two staff members.
- Collaborate with a hiring team to hire and onboard new team members as needed and/or recruit and provide technical direction to consultants that support the NCYF work.
- Lead annual team goal setting and individual goal setting and foster a supportive yet accountable environment for actualizing goals.
Project Design and Performance
- Collaborate in designing and managing all aspects of the NCYF team's work, including developing products and services using Power BI, Excel, survey platforms, and other data analytics and web-based tools; launching partnerships; and creating written deliverables.
- Lead the development and enhancement of key products, tools, and research methodologies to serve Tribal governments and Native-serving organizations, ensuring quality processes in writing, production, and launch, and incorporating feedback from internal and external partners.
Fundraising and Partnership Development
- Identify and develop close partnerships with Native-led organizations and Tribal leaders to advance specific strategic financing projects. Serve as lead advisor on those partnerships, with support from the partnerships manager.
- Partner with the Executive Team in fostering relationship-building, fund development, and investor engagement to advance NCYF initiatives. This may include co-developing proposals with Native-led organizational partners.
Other
- Identify and advocate within Children’s Funding Project for resources, policies, and practices that better support equitable partnerships with Native-led organizations and improve performance of projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or professional degree in social sciences, education, public health, law or related field plus at least five (5) years experience leading community projects related to administration of programs for Native children and youth, Tribal governance, and/or Indian law or at least eight (8) years equivalent lived experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including partnership management and community engagement.
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness, particularly related to working with Tribes and in Native American communities; and related cultural practices, traditions, and protocols.
- Comfortable with exploratory work in an emerging field of practice.
Preferred
- Experience in developing social impact projects addressing issues like poverty, inequality, education, and health in both Native-led and non-Native-led settings.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis software such as Excel and/or Power BI.
LOCATION: Remote with ability to travel. Work may be performed from anywhere in the United States.
COMPENSATION: This position falls into the Director level of our salary structure. Although the full salary range for the position is $105,000-$130,000, we expect the hiring range to be between $105,000 and $117,500, based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
