Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Job Description:
The Metal Manufacturing Engineering Manager is in a mission-critical position. They plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of the engineering department as it pertains to facilitating efficient manufacturing operations across the organization. They also apply their knowledge of materials and engineering theory and methods to design, integrates and improves manufacturing systems or related processes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Leads Engineering team in the development, review, and improvement of manufacturing processes.
- Evaluates and identifies potential failures related to operational processes, efficiency, and quality loss, identifies solutions, and remediates roadblocks using corrective and preventive actions.
- Using available technology, defines and communicates design intent and engineering tolerances that help engineers and manufacturers optimally control variations in manufacturing processes.
- Creates job methods utilizing engineering expertise.
- Creates detail prints of fixtures and tooling.
- Assigns engineers to implement improvements.
- Provides operator training when introducing new processes.
- Ensures compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and guidelines, including EPA and OSHA requirements.
- Conducts tests and or reviews feedback from operators when new fixtures or tooling are implemented to determine means of improving production.
- Aids in maintaining fixtures, tooling, and other equipment.
- Proposes and implements cost reduction programs.
- Establishes and maintains production floor layout to improve efficiency of operations.
- Authors Work Instructions pertaining to production processes.
- Fulfills customer engineering or suppliers engineering requests as needed.
- Completes quality system requirements as they pertain to specific job functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Other Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises up to 10 team members within the Engineering department.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5-10 Years management experience in contract manufacturing in a metal shop environment.
- Degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology or equivalent, or a minimum of ten years of related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- In-depth knowledge of ISO9001 / ISO13485 QMS, and FDA requirements.
- Knowledge of EPA and OSHA requirements
- Experience with precision, low to mid volume machining and assembly equipment, tooling, fixturing, and gauging.
- Experience with PFMEA, CAPA and GD&T.
- Working knowledge in the use of Mastercam or equivalent software to program CNC equipment and model creation.
- Computer skills required: E2 MRP Systems; Microsoft Office Suite; Project Management Software; Ability to write and send E-mails to peers, reports, customers, and suppliers as needed.
