Sarcoma Program Head, Associate or Full Professor
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) invite nominations and applications to lead the Sarcoma Program.
The position will be dual appointed with a primary faculty appointment in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch and a secondary appointment in the UW Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology. The position will report to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch and the Division Head of Hematology and Oncology.
The incumbent will provide strategic leadership with a strong vision to grow the Fred Hutch Sarcoma Program. The Program Head will contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in research in the area of Sarcoma. The successful candidate would be expected to: i) lead Fred Hutch’s Sarcoma Research and Clinical Program and ii) galvanize multi-disciplinary translational sarcoma research within Fred Hutch. The successful candidate will enter a vibrant and dynamic research environment with an opportunity to lead basic, translational, clinical, and public health sarcoma researchers across diverse disciplines. The incumbent will serve as an academic, clinical and educational leader charged with organizing, directing and expanding the clinical and research efforts for an established team of sarcoma clinicians and researchers. Responsibilities include faculty recruitment, oversight and mentorship of faculty and trainees on the sarcoma oncology team, and oversight of clinical care delivery on the sarcoma oncology service.
Appointment at Fred Hutch would be at the rank of associate or full professor in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutch.
Appointment to the full-time faculty at the UW would be at the rank of associate or full professor. Academic appointments at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Associate and full professors hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Opportunities exist for joint and/or affiliate appointment in the Fred Hutch Divisions of Public Health Sciences, Translational Science and Therapeutics, Human Biology, Basic Sciences, or Vaccine and Infectious Disease, depending on mutual interests.
Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
The successful candidate will spend 20-50% of their time on clinical care based on the candidate’s interests (and institutional need). The remainder of the incumbent’s time will be protected for research, administrative oversight of the Fred Hutch sarcoma clinical and research programs, teaching and mentorship, for the first three years, after which, the incumbent would be expected to cover at least half of their salary each year through grants, contracts, or clinical work.
Strong candidates will demonstrate evidence of both leadership and clinical excellence in sarcoma.
