Our client, a rapidly growing, nationally focused & vertically integrated, private equity-based student housing owner/operator & developer, seeks an experienced leader to join the senior management team in a newly created, strategic business development role for the organization.

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Company Principals and collaborating with other members of the senior leadership team, the Vice President of Client Relations will be responsible for leading a strategic, business development effort into growing a recently established, revenue generating, best-in-class third-party student housing/multifamily management vertical for the organization.
With an established property management operation historically exceeding returns throughout the operating portfolio, this organization continues to identify, acquire, develop, and successfully operate luxury, off-campus housing/apartments near top-ranked universities with large student/faculty populations, in high-growth markets around the country.
By leveraging this platform, this leadership role will be instrumental in driving a business development strategy that will identify new, third-party management opportunities providing new and existing client organizations with proven, financial, and operational optimization strategies resulting in long-term resident retention across their portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with Company Principals, develop a market research-driven, business development strategy that will leverage the Company’s existing property management platform to grow a revenue-generating, scalable, best-in-class, third-party management business.
- By diligently monitoring and analyzing market data, lead a proactive business development effort designed to develop, grow, and maintain new and existing client relationships within student housing/multifamily operators, brokerage firms, college universities, developers, and institutional owners.
- Develop, manage, and maintain a consistent pipeline of new, qualified leads within existing, as well as strategically researched, new growth markets.
- In concert with marketing, leasing, and operations, lead the coordination of all business proposals, pitches, and any other form of presentation offerings to qualified, new as well as existing clients. Promote a collaborative, team-oriented approach to share information across all departments within the Company.
- Lead informative and compelling new business opportunity presentations and function as the liaison to Company Principals in driving market-competitive, Company favorable contract negotiations.
- Thoroughly review and analyze new and existing financial analysis, industry trends, and competitor activities to provide business development reporting activity, market KPI’s, and any other pertinent metrics to assist Company Principals with quarterly and annual strategic planning & budgeting initiatives.
- Develop new, trustworthy relationships with existing Company clients and/or joint venture partners to establish clear, informative, and transparent communication protocols to consistently solicit feedback, address concerns, and provide the operational team with valuable insights.
- Represent the Company at industry events, conferences, associations, and participate in valuable panel discussions and seminars, as needed.
Key Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in business, marketing, real estate, and/or a related field. MBA or master’s degree/experience a plus.
- 5+ years of strategic, outwardly facing, business development/client development/sales experience within the student housing/multifamily commercial real estate market.
- Proven track record of increasing levels of leadership and responsibility within organizations. Prior experience leading successful projects and initiatives.
- Proven track record of consistently achieving business development/client development sales goals and objectives. Existing, long-term client relationships strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to generate leads, develop trusting relationships, establish credibility, and close contractual relationships and deals.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, can interact with people across a variety of experience levels. Experience managing, mentoring, and developing employees a plus.
- Outstanding presentation skills and a genuine desire to form long-standing client relationships.
- Experienced negotiator with a proven ability to drive consensus. Strong financial acumen with a keen understanding of multifamily operations.
- Self-starter and very team-oriented with a high sense of urgency for results.
- Must be willing to reside/relocate within the Washington, DC area.
