Job Summary:
The Safety & Compliance Director ensures that warehouse and transportation operations across the company meet all relevant safety and regulatory standards. This role involves developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs, conducting audits, managing compliance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety. This position is exempt from overtime under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Design and execute comprehensive safety programs covering areas such as forklift safety, hazardous materials handling, emergency preparedness, and employee safety training.
- Conduct Audits and Inspections: Perform regular safety audits and inspections to identify risks, ensure compliance, and address potential hazards across all locations.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, FDA, and HACCP standards. Ensure all warehouse and transportation operations are fully compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Investigate Accidents and Incidents: Lead investigations into accidents and incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Employee Training: Develop and deliver training programs for employees and management on safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and emergency response protocols.
- Manage Safety Team: Lead and mentor a team of safety professionals to ensure effective program execution and continuous improvement of safety protocols.
- Prepare Safety Reports: Analyze and prepare detailed reports for senior leadership on safety performance, incident rates, and regulatory compliance.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with operations, human resources, and other departments to embed safety into all business processes.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in safety and compliance, preferably in the food distribution or manufacturing industry.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong expertise in OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, FDA, and HACCP regulations.
- Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Travel: Ability to travel at least 50% of the time to various company locations - must have driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is highly desirable.
- Industry Experience: Prior experience in food warehouse distribution environments is a plus.
