BLITS 3.0 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This role will be to directly support the mission of the 66th Air Base Group (66 ABG) to secure information and information systems; to support mission success through effective and efficient service delivery; and to sustain required infrastructure and capabilities. As one part of the greater Air Force Information Network (AFIN) enterprise, the 66 ABG Communications and Information Division (66 ABG/SC) has responsibilities in two categories (1) direct actions in support of Hanscom Air Force Base (HAFB) and geographically separated units (GSUs); and (2) indirect actions to support the AFIN enterprise. Successful solutions for this requirement are expected to have strengths in four areas: integration, flexibility, AFIN knowledge, and technical expertise.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of server engineers/administrators and manage the planning, implementation, and management of storage/backup/server solutions as per AF enterprise standards.
- Lead server operations teams and infrastructure projects, set individual and team goals, and foster teamwork and individual growth opportunities.
- Deliver quality results in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks concurrently.
- Utilize skills and tools to install, configure, and troubleshoot server infrastructure and provide customer support for storage/backup/server services.
- Bring hands-on experience in enterprise virtualized platforms/storage/backup/server solutions to enhance existing infrastructure in accordance with AF Server infrastructure policies.
- Ensure infrastructures are compliant with applicable directives, publications, and guidelines from external DoD agencies in both unclassified and classified environments.
- Support the 66ABG/SC office (Base Communications Squadron) at Hanscom AFB, MA.
- Administer and manage a highly available SAN/Server/Backup infrastructure supporting over 6000+ users.
- Participate in system maintenance, optimization, and performance activities of the SAN/Server/Backup infrastructure.
- Administer Microsoft 2016/2019; experience with Linux Operating Systems is desired.
- Manage hardware and virtualized platforms (Nutanix/VMware) and IBM Array/Tape library and Veeam backup system.
- Install/configure/troubleshoot Domain Controller/DNS/Active Directory.
- Design/Configure/Install/Implement/Monitor/Troubleshoot hardware and operating systems on server/storage/backup infrastructure.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
- Interface with vendor support for proper escalation during outages or degraded performance.
- Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, and directories.
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades regularly, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
- Proactively identify, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve system problems.
- Coordinate and work closely with other IT operation teams.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s in information technology or equivalent plus 8+ years’ experience with a strong background in Storage Area Network/Virtualization/Backup/Server infrastructure. An additional 4 years’ experience may substitute for the degree.
- Microsoft Windows Server/VMware certification is preferred.
- DoD 8570 Certification CompTIA Security + required (obtained and active within last three years).
- Working knowledge of SAN Switches/Print Service/DHCP.
- Working knowledge of server infrastructure monitoring tools is desired.
- Strong server debugging and troubleshooting skills required.
- Discipline in operational excellence and detailed record-keeping for adherence to military processes.
- Ability to work effectively with people on projects and conduct technical interchanges.
- Knowledge in scripting tools such as PowerShell or Python desirable.
- Support emergency operations on an as-needed basis; 24/7 and weekend work may be required.
- Interact with customers to help resolve issues as required.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to lift about 50+ lbs required.
- Critical thinking skills for problem identification and resolution.
