ERM is seeking a Senior Methane Emissions Specialist / Data Scientist
to join its Geospatial and Climate Solutions team, based in Washington, DC. The Methane Emissions Specialist / Data Scientist will work alongside specialists in climate science, data science, and geospatial analysis to help develop efficient workflows and tools for our quickly growing portfolio of work as well as strategies to directly measure methane emissions. Current workflows include quantification of methane emissions using top down approaches, developing white papers and best practices for methane monitoring and reconciliation, identification of risk to infrastructure and assets from climate change, helping clients measure the carbon sink and stock potential of their landholdings, among others.
The selected candidate will join a team that works with most sectors, services and geographies to help our clients achieve their sustainable development goals through data-driven decision making. We leverage several “frontier technologies” in our workflows with a strong emphasis on providing integrated products of unique value. Several of these products are now being scaled for both internal and external use, and the selected candidate will provide key skill sets in helping ERM to scale its products.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop scalable approaches for methane emissions monitoring, quantification, reporting, and reconciliation using top-down approaches.
- Creating new, experimental frameworks to collect data.
- Providing insight and guidance based on current and upcoming regulatory or market drivers for methane emissions.
- Automate remote sensing, geospatial, or climate science workflows.
- Develop cloud based tools to assist in workflow standardization and automation.
- Build tools to automate data collection and analysis.
- Manipulate and analyze multi-dimensional and time series data.
- Creating reports and presentations for business uses.
- Assist with the preparation of methodology sections for reports and proposals.
- Work within, and guide others in working within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
- Complete work assignments in accordance with ERM's management system, format and quality standards, and guide others in doing likewise.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2-5 years of professional experience. Previous consulting experience is preferred.
- Masters or Ph.D. in data science, methane emissions, machine learning, software engineering, or related technical field.
- Knowledge of programming languages like SQL, Python, R, or Scala. Experience with additional languages such as HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and/or C++ would be preferred.
- Background in large scale methane leak detection and quantification.
- Knowledge and/or experience of methane emissions reconciliation approaches.
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, etc.).
- Advanced ability to perform exploratory data analysis.
- Experience with common data science toolkits.
- Working knowledge of statistics.
- Analytical and problem solving skills.
- Experience with machine learning and AI.
- Exceptional technical writing skills.
- Ability to communicate complex data in simple, actionable ways.
- Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel internationally, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated attributes to become a strong senior consultant – team player, eagerness to learn and grow, self-starter who takes initiative, versatile, and service oriented mentality.
The typical hiring range for this role is [$76,94 to $101,510]. This is the typical hiring range we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for bonus pay.
