The Assistant General Counsel will provide day-to-day legal and regulatory support to multiple specialty niche business units including commercial bond, political risk and trade credit, fine art and specie, terrorism and political violence, structured risk solutions and programs. Candidate must also have regulatory compliance knowledge so that they can interface in a meaningful way with the regulatory compliance team.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Serve as legal and regulatory counsel to underwriters of US specialty niche underwriting business units including provision of creative and timely legal advice and guidance on wide range of insurance, surety and corporate issues as well as guidance on business and contractual matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate large variety of commercial contracts (including bond forms and riders, general indemnity agreements, producer, program administrator, confidentiality, third party administrator, vendor, indemnity, etc.).
- Serve as global legal liaison for commercial bond which includes interaction with international legal colleagues to facilitate and coordinate legal review of international commercial bond products.
- Review of marketing and advertising material and event contracts.
- Assist in product development and existing product support, including draft and review proprietary insurance policies and manuscript endorsements, provide legal and regulatory advice regarding coverage terms and conditions.
- Collaborate effectively with internal operational areas, including Middle Office, Marketing/Communications, Claims, and Finance.
- Retain outside counsel and manage non-claims litigation involving Company.
- Clearly communicate to regulators and manage various regulatory reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with regulatory compliance team to provide guidance and advice regarding products and transactions such as rate and form filings, non-renewal/cancellation requirements, insurance department objections and coverage matters.
- Research and analyze wide range of insurance and non-insurance legal and compliance issues.

Required Skills And Abilities
- Qualifications. Law Degree from an accredited law school is required, and you must be a licensed attorney in at least one State.
- Experience: Moderate in-house or law firm experience in commercial property and casualty insurance with a focus on commercial bond/surety products; experience is other specialty niche products preferred.
- Knowledge: Knowledgeable in insurance laws and regulations. Experience working as a trusted adviser to business clients. Experience interacting with insurance regulators. Cross-border experience a plus. Must have broad experience with multiple lines of business.
- Leadership Skills. Mentors, sets and communicates expectations, evaluates and holds themselves and others accountable for delivering in a highly matrixed environment.
- Strategic Thinking: Thought leader who is able to facilitate discussions and engage with colleagues at all levels of seniority. Experience in leading large-scale, complex legal and regulatory matters.
- Communication and Negotiation: Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, negotiation and presentation skills. Build rapport and credibility with business leaders due to your ability to clearly communicate your legal and regulatory guidance grounded in your subject-matter-expertise.

The U.S. pay range for this position is $92,500–$182,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
