Great Basin Institute seeks to hire a visionary COO to oversee our operational processes and to ensure superb organizational performance while advancing our environmental mission of public land stewardship. The COO will optimize our organization's operating capabilities, employ strategies to maximize program impacts, and manage GBI strategic initiatives in environmental research, education, and service throughout the western US. The COO will assist in the successful development and management of our partnership portfolio among public land management agencies and organizations.
In this position, you will:
- Compile financial reports, oversee control of financial policies and procedures, and support the oversight of grants and agreements totaling 20M annually.
- Lead our senior management to advance innovative solutions to our region’s complex resource management challenges.
- Collaborate with program staff to compile annual budgets and support fiscal operations.
- Spearhead strategies to steer the organization’s future in a positive direction.
- Drive the organization’s operating capabilities to increase partner and employee satisfaction and retention, and organizational goals.
- Control organization costs, and introduce tactical initiatives to address potential losses.
- Monitor invoices, accounting, and bank processes.
- Prepare timely and accurate programmatic performance reports.
- Oversee marketing initiatives and implement best organizational practices.
- Delegate responsibilities to ensure staff members grow as capable participants.
- Employ various initiatives to coach employees to optimize their capabilities.
- Complete performance reviews in a prudent manner.
- Assess and implement improved processes and new technologies, and collaborate with management regarding the implementation of these improvements.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in nonprofit administration, natural resource management or related fields;
- 10 years of experience managing a complex organizational structure that includes human resources, finances, operations, and development strategies.
- Proven track record of outstanding performance in supporting vertically integrated nonprofit enterprises.
- Proven track record of managing complex budgets above 15M successfully.
- Demonstrated experience of ethical leadership.
- Outstanding verbal and written skills, and experience working with staff on all levels.
- Ability to make strategic operational projections three years into the future.
