Role Description:
In the role of Reinsurance Contracts Counsel, you will work under the direction of the Assistant Vice President & Senior Counsel to provide legal guidance related to assumed and ceded reinsurance contracts, coverages and legal issues by leveraging demonstrated ability for sound business judgment while supporting a growing reinsurance organization in these areas.
Your day-to-day responsibilities as Reinsurance Contracts Counsel will include:
- Reviewing all contracts for new and renewal assumed reinsurance transactions, including multiple iterations from initial draft to firm order terms/final contract
- Advising underwriters and decision makers on material terms of each reinsurance agreement, including coverage, data and other material provisions
- Reviewing all non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), addenda and endorsements for assumed reinsurance business
- Responsible for and ensuring consistency across clauses, contracts, including standardized contract wordings that are required by the company. Must be able to maintain a consistency of approach by program, line of business, treaty and/or broker
- In conjunction with the General Counsel, you will serve as a resource to the Ceded Reinsurance Department and will provide contractual review of the Company’s ceded reinsurance agreements
The ideal candidate is:
- Attorney with primary responsibility for identifying confidentiality and privacy requirements, including GDPR, CCPA and other privacy-related laws and provisions, across all reinsurance agreements
- Fluent in translating legal advice into actionable guidance for business teams
- Sharp analytical and communication skills, and a diligent, proactive and collaborative approach having shown balanced legal and business judgment and strategic thinking
- Ability to prioritize high-volume workload and manage several large projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
Qualifications:
Education:
- Must have a J.D. from an accredited law school
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years minimum of casualty and/or professional lines reinsurance contractual experience
- Must be currently licensed to practice law in at least one state
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently on complex tasks with a proven record of producing excellent work product
- Demonstrated understanding of the reinsurance insurance industry and reinsurance operations
