Chief People Officer (CPO)
LOCATION: Boston, MA or Washington DC (hybrid in office min 1-2 times per month)
DEPARTMENT: People Culture and Human Resources
REPORTS TO: VP, Strategy & Operations (VPSO)
DIRECT REPORTS: Oxfam America (OUS) People, Culture, and Human Resources team

Job Summary
As Oxfam America’s Chief People Officer (CPO), you will lead and be accountable for steering Oxfam America’s People, Culture and Human Resources Department, ensuring that the department’s initiatives align to Oxfam’s overall strategic and organizational goals and mission to fight inequality to end poverty. You will be responsible for the attraction, development, support and retention of our most valuable asset – our people. You will foster the employee engagement and wellbeing, lived values, inclusion and belonging in our hybrid and virtual workplace that is reflective of the mission.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive People Strategy to enable Oxfam America’s mission and strategic objectives.
- Provide leadership to the organization on people and human resources matters.
- Co-lead strategic priority to build a feminist and anti-racist culture.
- Provide clear strategic and tactical guidance to the VPSO and executive leadership team.
- Lead PCHR team to create and implement annual objectives to advance Oxfam strategic priorities.
Talent Acquisition and Management
- Ensure organizational fitness at all levels to effectively manage talent.
- Champion an inclusive organizational culture that supports development and retention of our talent.
- Responsible for ongoing evaluation and improvement of OUS' employee recognition and total rewards program.
Human Resources Operations and Administration
- Ensure compliance with all legal requirements and regulations related to PCHR.
- Lead the PCHR team in developing, implementing and updating practices, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure effective management of HR information systems and data analytics.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10-15+ years of experience as a seasoned HR professional.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A track record of building and leading successful HR teams.
- Demonstrated commitment to and experience in leading Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging initiatives.
- Deep current knowledge of US employment and labor laws.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, social sciences, business, or related area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior leadership experience in a not-for-profit organization.
- Master's degree in a related field.
