Job Responsibilities:
Individual will serve as the lead surgeon for survival surgeries in pigs. Needs to work as a team member and leader of a surgical team.
Skilled surgeon that is able or can be trained to sedate and anesthetize domestic
pigs and undertake survival based surgical procedures.
Assist with the hand rearing of piglets.
Keep all surgical records and assist with the organization of the surgical room.
Assist with IACUC and other regulatory documents.
Regularly conducting experiments and procedures according to established or new guidelines and manage time effectively.
Supervision: Mentor, train, and supervise undergraduate students, volunteers and interns.
Operational Role:
Puts into effect what is required by defined job duties and clear objectives following established
procedures and protocols with appropriate modifications when necessary.
Scope of Measurable Impact:
Must facilitate studies with successful outcomes based on execution of proper controls. Measurable impact will also be defined by the generation of excellent team work.
Independence and Decision-Making:
Works under general supervision but usually is given the latitude to make decisions on projects
that he/she is accountable for delivering on; decisions may involve selecting an approach from
among alternatives, timing when certain tasks should be performed, determining how to best use
available resources, and other similar choices.
Complexity and Problem Solving:
Expected to make informed and appropriate decisions to lead to best surgical and experimental outcomes.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree and 2 years of related experiences or BS/BA and 4 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise pertaining to surgical procedures (small or large animal).
