POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Open Source to lead and shape our open source initiatives at CIQ, nurture the health of our key project communities, and develop CIQ’s reputation within the Open Source community. This role is critical in developing our open source strategy and ensuring the vitality and sustainability of our open source ecosystem. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading, growing, and managing a team of open source program managers and engineers responsible for overseeing various open source initiatives and community management activities.
- Developing and implementing high-level strategies to enhance the health and growth of open source communities, particularly for Rocky Linux, Apptainer, Warewulf, and OpenELA.
- Defining and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) for the open source team, ensuring alignment with overall organizational goals.
- Collaborating with executive leadership to define and execute CIQ's open source vision and strategy.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in the open source community, including project leaders, major contributors, and partner organizations.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of open source processes and best practices within CIQ.
- Serving as the primary spokesperson for CIQ's open source initiatives at high-profile industry events, conferences, and strategic partner meetings.
- Driving innovation in open source community engagement and contribution models.
- Managing budget and resources for the open source department.
- Identifying and pursuing strategic partnerships and collaborations to advance CIQ's open source goals.
- Reporting on the status, impact, and strategic value of open source initiatives to company leadership on a regular basis.

- Strong leadership skills and experience in guiding cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with at least one of our key projects (Rocky Linux, Apptainer, Warewulf, or OpenELA) is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving mentality with the ability to navigate complex technical and community challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across and with global, diverse communities.
- Knowledge of software licensing and intellectual property issues in open source.
- Cultural sensitivity and experience in fostering inclusive environments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience in open source community management and involvement, with a track record of growing and nurturing open source communities.
- Experience with enterprise Linux distributions and containerization technologies.
- Contributions to notable open source projects.
- Public speaking experience at technology conferences or community events.
