The Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) program, an AAR business, headquartered in Rockledge, FL, provides global, world-class expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing.
Role Description:
This position is a Reserve/Augmentation Pilot Position assigned to PACE, Patrick Space Force Base, FL and based at the AAR Program Management Office (PMO), Rockledge, FL. You will travel INCONUS in a TDY status to conduct indoctrination and aircraft training and then travel OCONUS to complete mission-specific readiness level training. Once fully qualified in the aircraft, you will be PMO based as Assistant Fixed Wing Standardization pilot but must have the ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 120 days annually, typically at 17–45-day intervals. You will travel as needed/directed to maintain pilot currency and/or supplement pilot manning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assisting the Fixed Wing Standardization Pilot with implementing the organization’s Aircrew Training Program, maintaining flight records, Air Wing Information Systems entries, and updating aviation references and publications.
- Maintain aircraft currency requirements in accordance with government guidance.
- Deploy routinely OCONUS to augment various sites with their manning requirements.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of flight plans, taking into account factors such as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, airport facilities, and navigation aids.
- Supervise or accomplish the aircraft preflight inspection and preparation.
- Ensure proper loading, distribution, and security of cargo and passengers, and verify that the aircraft's weight and balance conform to prescribed limits.
- Responsible for logging aircraft flight time, filing and closing flight plans, and preparation of flight and duty time records.
- Conduct passenger briefings prior to each take-off.
- Assist in identifying training needs, planning, administering, and overseeing academic programs to develop Fixed Wing crew members within Fixed Wing operations.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and present reports and recommendations to management.
- Assist in recruiting qualified candidates for hire.
- Stay current with and ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, as well as all state and local government policies, standards, procedures, and laws governing aviation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Standards.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1,500 total fixed wing flight hours including 500 hours of turbine engine time.
- FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman's Certificate Airplane, MEL.
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
- Successful completion of FAA Type Rating in the selected type required before assignment.
- Within 90 days of achieving FAA type rating, must complete fixed wing aircraft, DHC-8, Readiness Level (RL) training. Aircraft qualification training will include travel to Iraq in a TDY status.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for up to 120 days annually at 14-day to 60-day intervals.
- Minimum 250 hours multi-engine pilot-in-command time.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
- Ability to pass physical screening.
- Passport with 18 months remaining.
