Job Summary: We are seeking a VP of Business Development to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the business and go-to-market plans for the company as well as marketing and communication efforts. This individual will also lead a senior team of sales and marketing professionals responsible for driving business and revenue growth by selling Element U.S. Space & Defense capabilities to external customers, including government, Aerospace, Defense and Space sectors. VP will also be responsible for developing partnerships with relevant industry peers and leading go-to-market strategy including new segment opportunity identification. This role is crucial in ensuring the success of our innovative projects and maintaining our reputation as leaders in the space and defense sectors.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the Element U.S. Space & Defense lines of business, the VP will develop opportunity pipelines and roadmaps.
- Through close customer intimacy, the VP will research, analyze, and monitor the development of customer priorities, program requirements, budget formulation, acquisition strategy and program execution.
- The VP will advocate with key U.S. Government and industry customers on issues of importance to Element U.S. Space & Defense, and will identify the functional impact of program, budget, and acquisition issues as appropriate.
- The VP will work to identify and action opportunities for international growth.
- Development of capture plans including technical, management, past performance, pricing strategies, and win themes.
- Develop and implement strategic business development plans to achieve business viability, revenue growth, market penetration, and other objectives.
- Manage the sales pipeline using a common CRM tool, including forecasting and tracking revenue, and regularly reporting on progress.
- Identify, cultivate, and close new business opportunities with external customers, including government, aerospace and defense industry, and commercial customers.
- Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within customer organizations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, program management, and marketing, to develop compelling proposals and presentations for customers.
- Deliver persuasive presentations and technical briefings to customers and partners.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and customer requirements to ensure Element U.S. Space & Defense capabilities remain competitive and relevant.
- Provide market and competitive analysis to inform product development and strategic decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Proven track record of success in a senior business development, sales and/or marketing role with 10 years of relevant business development and marketing experience in government, Aerospace, Defense and/or Space sectors or closely related industry.
- Federal contracting and procurement experience and knowledge
- Experience leading large program captures within industry-standard BD/Capture processes
- History of identifying, qualifying, and winning large government or industry contracts
- This is a full-time remote position; frequent business travel is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in business administration (MBA), Marketing, Engineering or related field.
- Proven track record in securing and managing multi-million-dollar government contracts, including familiarity with the Department of Defense (DoD) procurement process.
- Experience leading large, cross-functional teams through periods of significant growth, restructuring or change.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Deep understanding of government contracts and financial vehicles used to facilitate program wins.
- An understanding of the Department of Defense programming and budget process, federal acquisition process and military operational requirements and systems capability determination.
- Significant and relevant customer relationships across the Defense & Space industry.
- Long-term strategy and campaign development for positioning in current and new markets.
- Ability to foster a high-performance, results-oriented team environment by holding teams accountable to meet and exceed their sales plans, ensuring new business pipeline is full and that prospects are closed.
- Ability to both develop Strategy for Sales and Marketing while also being able to implement at a tactical level as needed.
- Proficiency in product development, revenue growth, and strategic partnerships.
- In-depth knowledge of marketing and selling strategies and methods, as well as employee motivation techniques.
- Analytical skills to evaluate data and use it to make decisions.
- Understanding of market trends and adaptability to follow those trends.
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, influencing and customer service skills.
- Strategic planning, organizational, and creative thinking skills.
