The Nevada Court System is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead its Information Technology (IT) division. The CIO will be responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, development, and implementation of innovative IT solutions that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of court operations for both the Nevada Appellate Courts and trial courts. This role requires a visionary leader with a strong technical background, excellent management skills, and a commitment to improving the administration of justice through technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning and Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with the court’s strategic plan, mission, and goals.
- Provide leadership and direction to the IT department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services and support.
- As part of the Executive Leadership Team, collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to identify and prioritize technology initiatives.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures.
- IT Operations and Management:
- Ensure effective management of the IT department’s daily operations, including infrastructure, applications, security, and support services.
- Oversee and enhance the court's IT systems and infrastructure, prioritizing reliability, security, and scalability to meet current and future operational demands effectively. Develop and manage IT budgets, resources, and vendor relationships to optimize cost-effectiveness and service delivery.
- As required, testify before legislative bodies and interface with other external entities.
- Team Development and Management:
- Recruit, train, and mentor IT staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Set performance objectives, conduct performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Promote teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication within the IT department and across the organization.
- Innovation and Technology Implementation:
- Drive the adoption of new technologies and innovative solutions to improve court processes and services.
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of IT projects with the management and project management teams, ensuring they meet functional requirements and are delivered on time and within budget.
- Serve as staff to the Supreme Court IT Steering Committee and the Judicial Council of the State of Nevada (JCSN) Technology Committee.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend their integration into the court’s IT landscape.
- Security and Compliance:
- Review the IT Security Team’s development and enforcement of IT security policies, standards, and procedures to protect sensitive court information.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and best practices related to IT and data management.
- Ensure that the team conducts regular security assessments and audits to identify and mitigate risks.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in IT management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale IT projects and initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, applications, security, and emerging technologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in the public sector, particularly within the judicial system, is highly desirable.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, PMP, ITIL) are a plus.
- University level degree, Master’s degree preferred. Combination of schooling and experience will be considered.

Effectively works remotely and manages employees from a remote location, as needed. Must have expertise in virtual meeting platforms, such as Teams. Must have the ability to work remotely via an internet network connection provided by the employee. This connection speed must be sufficient to perform all duties. A minimum of 50-100 mb download speeds are required. Higher connection speed may be required if sharing this connection with other members in an employee’s household.
