I. Major Responsibilities:
- Develops and disseminates policies, provides training, conducts reviews and reports to executive management and the Board of Trustees, ensuring compliance with laws and regulatory requirements, and promoting the organization's commitment to compliance and privacy. Areas to be addressed include, but are not limited to, integrity of billing, accreditation and licensure, tax status, prevention of management fraud and illegal acts, unauthorized use of assets, and adherence to regulatory requirements such as CMS, IRS, OSHA, EPA, ADA, regulations, EEO, and wage and hour laws.
- Monitors and reports results of compliance activity and provides guidance for the Board and Senior Management Team on matters involving compliance and privacy. The Chief Compliance Officer, CEO, Compliance Committee and UMMH VP, Chief Compliance Officer collectively direct and oversee implementation and maintenance of compliance and privacy programs for assigned areas.
- Develops and maintains policies supporting the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and Compliance & Privacy Programs.
- Develops and implements an effective compliance and privacy training program addressing the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and other aspects of the compliance and privacy programs. Training should be mandated for all new hires, including physicians, and on an ongoing basis at appropriate intervals.
- Oversees and ensures timely and appropriate response to calls to the Confidential Reporting Line/EthicsPoint or to other communications regarding potential non-compliance. Ensures documentation of investigatory process, findings, summary, recommendations, and action plan/resolution. Ensures appropriate tracking and reporting of calls to the Compliance Committee.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC). If not already obtained, CHC certification will be required within twelve months of employment as a condition of employment.
Preferred:
- Master's or similar advanced degree in related field (law, healthcare administration, nursing, business administration or accounting/finance).
Experience/Skill:
Required:
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in health care organization, plus five (5) years of managerial/supervisory experience including project management.
- Minimum five (5) years in corporate compliance; at least two (2) years of which must be at a management level.
- Professional work experience with federal and state agencies in a compliance capacity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and leadership ability.
- Knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations and standards.
- Extensive experience in report development and policy and procedure development, preferably industry related.
- Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in public speaking and business presentations.
- Excellent Excel spreadsheet, Internet, Power Point and Word processing skills.
Preferred:
- Understanding of coding and reimbursement systems, risk management and performance improvement.
