General Manager Overview
The General Manager is the operations leader of the Duluth Curling Club. They are responsible for achieving strategic and financial goals set by the Board of Directors, with the staff of the club, and for the betterment of our Member experience. They are responsible for helping other club areas (curling, restaurant, and gambling) achieve their goals. Other club managers all report to the General Manager: Restaurant Manager, Curling Manager, Office Manager, and Gambling Manager. In their role as leader of the facility, they are responsible for club rentals, advertising, and sponsorships. The General Manager also serves as the operations contact between the club and the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC), the lead on all licensing and insurance work, and the point-of-contact for all independent contractors (cleaning crew, etc.).
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the curling facility, including smooth running of all curling-related activities with the Curling Manager, and all Restaurant-related activities with the Restaurant Manager.
- Ensure the club is compliant with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards.
- Articulate a compelling vision of change, anticipate and overcome potential obstacles, and address conflicts among the team for discussion and resolution.
- Consistently and persistently communicate the mission of the club to members, fostering the translation of this vision into action.
- Provide effective leadership and management to staff, including a weekly staff meeting, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of employees and volunteers, evaluating the skills of direct manager reports and the DCC team.
- Develop and manage the club's budget with the Finance and HR Committee, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Maintain accounting controls and manage financial records.
- Pursue sponsorship opportunities and club rentals to boost revenue.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for local businesses and club member complaints, and as the emergency contact for the club.
- Ensure the maintenance and upkeep of the curling facility, the restaurant, and its equipment, including the security system, wifi networks, etc.
- Plan and execute club events and community activities, in partnership with Curling & Restaurant Managers.
- Work with committees and volunteers to organize and run the club successfully.
- Report progress to the Board of Directors.
- Purchase capital equipment and hire contractors as needed.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for facility cleaning, repairs, and improvements.
- Continuously identify and initiate solutions for areas of opportunity in the club.
- Be fluent in competitive curling club offerings and benchmarking.
