Description
- Work closely and collaborate with division deputy chief, executive directors and identified school principals and their leadership teams to increase and accelerate the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the instructional service delivery system for students; significantly increase student achievement across all student subgroups, close the achievement gap and meet school and district Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) targets.
- Collaboratively develop and monitor the execution of the school improvement support plan designed around the customized needs of schools and students served; accelerate student achievement to standards and provide ongoing support to principals, teachers and support staff.
- Collaborate with division instructional support teams to provide instructional recommendations, strategies and support, including coaching, to high-needs schools on best practices in data-driven, highly effective standards-based differential instruction.
- Work collaboratively with the chief of School Leadership to identify and deploy necessary supports and prescriptive elements, including data-driven instruction, professional development, coaching, peer instructional walks, and training as needed.
- Provide regular reports to the chief of School Leadership and deputy chiefs on school improvement progress and make recommendations accordingly to ensure continual improvement as measured by pre-established metrics.
- Assist with the coordination of observations and conversations around the needs of campuses.
- Execute districtwide student achievement performance targets that integrate into the district's Action Plan as it is developed, executed, monitored and evaluated.
- Ensure compliance of assigned schools with all pertinent federal, state and local policies, procedures, regulations and requirements, providing training as needed to ensure compliance. Serve as an articulate spokesperson for the district at formal and informal speaking engagements and in the development of written documents regarding school improvement.
- Assist with the implementation of all school leadership initiatives. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree required from an accredited university in educational administration or related areas; three (3) years of directly related educational experience.
- Extensive knowledge of effective principles and practices of management and thorough knowledge of instructional theory and practice, including assessment of instruction.
- Knowledge of board policies and procedures preferred.
- Familiarity with federal and state legislation and regulations that apply to areas of responsibility.
- Awareness of organizational theory and its application in large school districts, including familiarity with "systems thinking" and the ability to analyze organizational situations from various frames.
- Understanding of the functions and operations of a large public school district, acquaintance with K-12 curriculums, school-centered decision-making and the change process in organizations.
- Knowledge of school building operations, needs and concerns; awareness of effective supervisory methods, practices, and techniques.
- Character, personality and proper social capability to relate effectively with racially and ethnically diverse staff, students and families.
- Ability to function effectively with all levels of management within and across district departments.
- Skills in personnel management and strong interpersonal skills.
- Competency to meet the communications diversity of the community and district, staff members and the public at large.
- Exemplary strategic, functional and operational planning skills.
- Capacity to write reports and plan documents requiring technical precision, accuracy, readability and editorial correctness.
