Family Based Services Association of New Jersey is seeking its next executive director. We are a non-profit organization that provides peer support, education, and advocacy on behalf of Monmouth County’s parents and families of children with emotional, behavioral, mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse. This position is anticipated to start on November 4, 2024. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. Education and Experience:
- Lived experience as a parent/caregiver of a youth or adult with behavioral, mental and/or developmental challenges is required.
- Hands-on experience and working knowledge of New Jersey’s Children’s System of Care (CSOC) and state contracts is preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree preferred. Will consider Certificate in Non-Profit Management.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and management responsibilities in a nonprofit organization.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and work collaboratively with both administrative and front-line staff.
- Strong interpersonal and communications (written and oral) skills are required.
- Proven success in preparing and managing an organizational budget.
- Experience and familiarity with labor law.
- Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
- High-level strategic thinking and planning.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Board Governance:
- Works with the Board to fulfill the organization's mission.
- Responsible for leading FBSANJ in a manner that supports and guides the organization's mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
- Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function correctly and make informed decisions.
- Financial Performance and Viability:
- Works with the Board to allocate state funding and other monies to responsibly expend financial resources.
- Works with the Board to plan, support and accomplish any fundraising goals to enhance the core programming of FBSANJ in alignment with its mission.
- Responsible for the fiscal integrity of FBSANJ to include submission to the board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the organization's financial condition.
- Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintains the organization in a favorable financial position.
- Organization Mission and Strategy:
- Works with Board and staff to ensure that the mission of FBSANJ is fulfilled through peer support activities, community programs and outreach.
- Works with the Board to develop action planning and board development opportunities so that FBSANJ can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
- Responsible for the enhancement of FBSANJ image by being active and visible in the community and working closely with other leadership of other community-based agencies and participation in Children’s Interagency Coordinating Council (CIACC).
- Organization Operations:
- Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the organization's operations are appropriate.
- Responsible for hiring and retention of qualified staff and termination of staff not performing at a satisfactory level.
- Responsible for the effective administration of FBSANJ’s operations.
- Responsible for safe and respectful work environments.
- Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, contracts and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
Specific tasks:
- Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and increase overall visibility of FBSANJ.
- Develop a succession plan to meet agency goals and objectives for all levels of agency functioning, including the Executive Director role. This includes role redundancy in the event of a staff member’s illness or inability to perform job tasks.
- Lead and collaborate with staff, supporting workplace team building efforts and activities.
- Develop planning and operation of the annual budget.
- Serve as FBSANJ’s primary spokesperson to the Department of Children and Families, the organization's constituents, the media, and the public.
- Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations to enhance FBSANJ's mission.
- Engage, with assigned Board members, in fundraising, grant writing, and developing other sources of revenue as needed.
- Engage with assigned staff and Board member(s) on marketing and other communications efforts.
- Participate in Board and committee meetings.
- Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit.
- In concert with Family Support Coordinator and Outreach Coordinator plan and schedule organizational wide professional development presentations.
- In concert with assigned board members, develop, review, and approve MOU’s and contracts, as appropriate.
- Participate in Board development activities, including the onboarding of new board members.
- Working with assigned Board member(s) on issues related to agency governance and policy.
- Provide support and engage with the bookkeeper and auditor regarding financial records and procedures.
- Responsible for document and record retention, including payroll, financial reports, taxes, board minutes, audit reports.
- Direct supervision and mentoring of administrative staff.
- Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
