A law firm based in Columbus, OH, is seeking an experienced International Trade Partner to join their team. The ideal candidate will be highly entrepreneurial, collegial, and bring a robust book of business. This role involves advising both U.S. and international clients on complex trade regulations, including compliance with U.S. Customs and CFIUS review processes, and managing various trade-related legal matters.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice to U.S. and foreign clients regarding regulatory requirements for investment in the U.S.
- Guide foreign investors through the U.S. government's Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) review process.
- Advise clients on compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and other import-related requirements.
- Offer insights on trade preference programs such as USMCA and CAFTA, and the application of trade remedies including AD/CVD and Section 301.
- Counsel clients on the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
- Communicate with regulators concerning investigations, protests, voluntary disclosures, and settlements.
- Handle trade litigation matters as needed, with relevant experience being advantageous.
Requirements
- A strong existing book of business.
- Proven track record in international trade law and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with U.S. Customs, CFIUS review processes, and trade preference programs.
- Familiarity with EAR, ITAR, and OFAC sanctions.
- Demonstrated ability to handle communications with regulatory bodies.
- Trade litigation experience is a plus.
Education
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Certifications
- Admission to the Bar in the state of Ohio (or eligibility for admission).
