OVERVIEW:
The Senior Director of People Operations leads the HR function for Companion and will work directly with the Executive Leadership Team to develop, deploy, and iterate strategy, systems, and training to allow Companion to effectively scale while also enhancing our hospitals, supporting our teammates, and delivering excellent care to our patients and clients.
The Senior Director of People Operations is the strategic business leader who focuses on putting the employee first, continuously improving our systems and processes. The position serves as liaison, advocate and trusted partner between Companion Pet Partners’ hospitals and PEO on all matters related to pay, benefits, policies and personnel issues. A successful People Operations Director improves company culture, increases employee dedication and diversity, and fuels business growth.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees Payroll and HR Departments, ensuring consistent execution of core functions and prioritizing strategic projects and system improvements as warranted.
- Manages the day-to-day relationship with our PEO to ensure excellence in service and support for our hospital and home office teammates.
- Works closely with the Regional Operations Directors and hospital leaders, providing guidance to help resolve complex employee relations issues.
- Collaborates with Executive team to provide input on key HR related matters and to assist in designing the People Operations functions and team for the future.
- Leads cross-functional relationships across Companion to advise on HR related matters, compliance and risk-mitigation, and People Operations related policies and procedures.
- Acts as a liaison, advocate, and trusted partner for all HR related matters for Companion hospitals, including payroll, benefits, and employee relations.
- Develops HR related standards to provide excellent teammate experience across all of Companion hospitals.
- Be a key resource to all Hospital Managers and Medical Directors on HR related matters.
- Facilitates the onboarding process and training on ADP Total Source for the teammates joining Companion through acquisition and partners with development and hospital leadership to facilitate a smooth and positive integration process.
- Supports hiring process and onboarding for home office teammates to ensure consistently excellent teammate experience.
- Proactive problem solving and dedicated support to ensure consistently excellent client experience and teammate engagement.
- Understands State and Federal labor laws and legislation in current and future Companion markets, providing proactive updates and policy recommendations as needed.
COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- 10+ years of experience in human resources and business operations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- An approach to navigating challenges with emotional intelligence, empathy, and impartiality.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
- Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization’s hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Graduate with a bachelor’s degree required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development or Human Resources preferred.
- Experience working in human or animal healthcare preferred.
- Experience working with multi-site, multi-state businesses strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- SHRM-CP or SPHR preferred.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with ADP Totalsource & ADP Workforce Now.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position requires site visits to hospitals and presence at regional and national meetings.
- If based in Los Angeles, assume 25% travel; if outside of LA, will be 50%.
WHAT WE OFFER:
- Companion offers competitive compensation ($165,000 - $195,000 per year) plus annual bonus eligibility and a benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, PTO, and 401(k).
