Responsibilities:
- Work with the Assistant Director to manage summer programs and year-round retreats, taking primary lead on hiring, training and managing program supervisors and specialty instructors.
- Recruit, interview, and hire program supervisors and specialty instructors.
- Empower, manage, and evaluate program supervisors.
- Recruit and manage specialty experts who can offer cutting edge workshops.
- Contract specialty staff for rental groups as needed.
- Work with Director and Assistant Director to develop and implement a variety of opportunities for staff development.
- Design a schedule of engaging, fun, safe, and impactful activities during camp programs, including:
- Summer sessions that feature sports, aquatics, visual and performance art, ropes course, outdoor adventure, and a range of special programs.
- A series of weekend retreats designed to give campers either a taste of our general camp program and/or which explore a specific theme (ex: Social Justice).
- Collaborate with Director and Assistant Director on general staff management, program development and evaluation, camp policies, and other projects as they arise.
- Collaborate with colleagues at Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles to create and implement leadership opportunities for campers and other youth served by our agency throughout the year.
- Assist with the continual development of the camp department through professional education, such as ACA conferences, Foundation for Jewish Camp trainings/resources, and offerings through the Jewish Federation.
- Participate in additional projects or services as assigned, and as workload permits, to help meet departmental needs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of camp program experience.
- Experience working as a leader and educator in a youth environment.
- Experience working with low-income, diverse populations, understanding new traditions and cultures.
- Strong skills in communication, programming, staff management, teamwork, written and verbal expression, creativity, and crisis management.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, positive energy, sense of self, open mind, and empathy.
Compensation and Benefits:
Camp Bob Waldorf offers a compensation package that includes a competitive salary range commensurate with experience. Salary range: $68,000-$72,000 plus housing.
