Job Overview:
The RWJBarnabas Health Behavioral Health Center Safety and Security Director plans, develops and implements programs to provide a safe working environment for Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Center employees, visitors and patients; works closely with Plant Operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for safety/ligature risk. These responsibilities include Emergency Management and Security.
Insure that Central Jersey Behavioral is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.
The Director of Security demonstrates exceptional leadership skills and customer service while providing direction to the Security Staff. The candidate will have the ability to operate with a high degree of integrity, courage, compassion, autonomy and authority while working within the framework of RWJBarnabas Health philosophy and policies. The Director of Security will co-chair the hospital Workplace Violence Committee and work to proactively address the evolving risk landscape through a science-driven, best practice approach involving training, intelligence, investigations, training, standards, policy, and security technology implementation.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum of four year degree in an environmental, industrial hygiene, safety or health related science, or minimum of 10 years progressive experience in a healthcare safety position.
- Minimum of five years experience in healthcare safety.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver's License with eligibility to be covered by RWJBH insurance carrier.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently across a highly matrixed organization.
- Must be results/goal oriented, decision maker and strategic planner with critical thinking capabilities.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree preferred, education in Corporate Security, National Security, Criminal Justice, Law, Business Management, Crisis Management, Emergency Management, Intelligence, Military, or related fields are preferred.
- Certification as a Healthcare Safety Professional preferred.
- Ability to acquire certification for de-escalation training within ninety (90) days of hire.
- Previous experience in collecting, analyzing and reporting quality data.
- Previous experience in a behavioral health setting helpful.
- Demonstrated experience in managing intelligence and investigative programs.
- Threat and Risk Assessment experience is preferred.
- Ability to brief at all levels of the company, including senior leadership and affiliate administrative leadership.
- Experience in the management of security budgets, including cost benefit analysis.
- Ability to assess and manage external security and intelligence vendors.
- Experience partnering with local, state, and federal law enforcement.
Scheduling Requirements:
Essential Functions:
- Experience with Critical Thinking in Emergency Response Situations.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Preferred Security Certification(s), including from ASIS International or IAHSS.
- Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and virtual meeting and communication tools.
- Hospital Vulnerability Assessment and Security Risk Assessment experience is preferred.
- Can possess a valid State of New Jersey Permit to Carry a Handgun, but not required.
- Ability to motivate and inspire teams.
- Significant collaboration capabilities, including experience working with Human Resources, Security, IT, Communications, and other critical internal stakeholders.
- Change management and people leadership skills.
- Personal and professional standards of integrity and compassion.
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- Incident / Logging / Dispatching / Case Management Software.
