SUMMARY & SCOPE:
The Director of Finance for Sierra Aluminum is a critical and strategic leadership position, reporting directly to the President of Sierra Aluminum and with a dotted line to the Vice President of Finance for the Samuel Manufacturing Group. This role is pivotal, providing financial oversight to one of Samuel’s most complex and significant platforms. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to drive transformational change not only within Sierra Aluminum but across the broader Samuel organization. This position offers a chance to make a substantial impact on financial, operational, commercial, product development, and strategic initiatives.
As a trusted business partner and financial advisor, the Director of Finance will lead the finance team, ensuring robust financial stewardship and overseeing all financial reporting, analytics, and guidance activities. The role spans responsibilities across both U.S. and Mexico sites, including key locations in Riverside and Fontana, California, as well as Mexicali, Mexico.
This position requires a proactive leader with strong business acumen, capable of leveraging monitoring tools and scorecards to measure performance, conducting operational reviews to enhance efficiency, assessing risks and opportunities, and providing insights that support financial, commercial, and operational decision-making. The Director of Finance will play a vital role in optimizing Samuel's enterprise value and return on investment, while also fostering and maintaining strong working relationships with vendors, customers, financial institutions, and other internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- REPORTING: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and related analyses, comparing results with budget, forecasts, and prior periods, while ensuring deadlines and performance standards are met.
- CONTROLS: Monitor compliance with all corporate policies and procedures, enhance internal controls, and ensure adherence to IFRS, including compliance with local, state, and federal reporting responsibilities, and assist with physical inventory counts.
- MANAGEMENT PRESENTATIONS: Prepare monthly and quarterly business review packages and related analyses to support management presentations, identifying areas of opportunities and risks.
- FINANCIAL PLANNING: Oversee the financial planning and forecasting process, building quarterly, annual, and long-range financial plans and targets aligned with strategic objectives. Drive an efficient and effective process for developing financial budgets, including timeline, budget templates, and preparing budget deliverables while engaging all internal stakeholders.
- OPERATIONAL/COMMERCIAL ANALYSIS: Interface with internal and external stakeholders to monitor performance against plan, conduct extensive customer, product line, product manufacturing, and ROI analysis, interpreting results and trends, and identifying areas of improvement impacting sales, gross margin, operating profit, cost savings, working capital, etc.
- GROWTH SUPPORT: Understand key business drivers for long-term sustainable growth, and develop predictive analytics and tools to support the portfolio in achieving profitable growth.
- BUSINESS DECISION SUPPORT: Review all capital projects for conceptual and financial soundness. Develop ad-hoc modeling and analysis to support business decisions. Partner with cross-functional teams to develop tools that provide critical financial and operational information and KPIs.
- COST ACCOUNTING: Build Bills of Materials (BOMs) and create overhead standards. Measure operational performance against these standards, ensuring accurate costing and identifying areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
- TEAM: Develop, mentor, and guide the activities of the finance and accounting teams. Motivate and manage the workloads of direct reports; assist with learning and professional development.
- RELATIONSHIPS: Build strong working relationships with all internal stakeholders (sales, operations, purchasing), including corporate teams, and interface with internal/external stakeholders, including auditors.
- SPECIAL PROJECTS: Undertake any other special projects as deemed necessary.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- University graduate with an Accounting/Finance and/or Business Administration degree; MBA and/or a professional designation is preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive FP&A, costing and operational finance management experience.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Experience with Mexico Operations is an asset.
- Progressive managerial experience with strong people and project management skills.
- Experience with ERP systems and proficient in the use of various software programs.
- Knowledge of EPICs and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations is an asset.
- Experience of metal/commodity management is preferred.

The annual base salary range for this position is $170,000 - $230,000. If you are hired, your annual base pay will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base pay range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued wage growth.
