Position Description
The Senior Associate, Investment Operations located in Boston will be responsible for overseeing all operational activities to support our alternatives sub advisory middle and back-office operations. This includes managing the operational portfolio lifecycle for new and existing portfolios, both internally and with services providers and ensuring connectivity for trading, pre-trade compliance, cash reporting, valuation, and reconciliations. In partnership with the Head of Investment Operations and existing operational teams, this individual will design, implement, and oversee all operational activities to ensure timely and accurate portfolio information for our investment team from trade execution to assisting with investment compliance monitoring, fair valuation oversight, and ultimately performance reporting. It is expected that this individual will work with a start-up mentality. At the onset, the individual will be using their skills to implement new processes and support those functions and specifically, leveraging existing processes and teams where they exist and creating new processes where it is new to Partners Capital.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Associate who is looking to expand their operational knowledge and help build and design a new operational function. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in portfolio or fund operations working with daily valued and monthly valued fund structures with specific operational knowledge with private equity, co-investments, secondaries and private debt investments. Direct experience supporting investment portfolios within a 40 Act structure and Lux funds is highly desired. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate their expertise across various portfolio operations activities and will be expected to be flexible and willing to contribute to the firm’s continued success.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for the oversight of our sub advisory investment operations, across a spectrum of fund structures consisting of private equity funds, hedge funds, 40 Act funds and Lux funds.
- Responsible for all operational responsibilities including pre-trade and investment compliance, trade oversight, documentation and communication, cash forecasting, reconciliation, fair valuations and risk reporting.
- Adhere and ensure investment compliance with all regulatory requirements for our portfolios including supporting the investment team with investment guidelines monitoring.
- Assume operational lead with new portfolio launches in conjunction with the Fund Structuring team and ensure all internal and external setups are established prior to launch, maximizing automation with third parties.
- Improve the control environment for investment operations in coordination with technology team and transformation office.
- Responsible for ensuring all information security processes, policies and procedures are adhered to and any issues or concerns are raised with the Cyber Security team.
- Ensure full compliance with all local data protection regulations and privacy controls, and any related issues are raised via the appropriate channels.
Qualifications / Attributes
As a fast growing, 350+ person company, we seek someone who is dynamic, detail oriented, and comfortable managing multiple tasks at once. The candidate must possess an outstanding track record of expertise and accomplishments and strong interpersonal, project management and communication skills.
- Experience (4+ years) in middle or back-office operations within fund management or fund administration with experience in alternative assets and registered products is required.
- Experience with investment compliance, fair valuation and adherence to allocation processes is preferred.
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or other related area; advanced degree and/or credentials, or progress towards, such as MBA, CPA, CFA, or CAIA Designation is a plus.
- Exceptional communication, both written and verbal and attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated expertise with data analysis and strong technical acumen, specifically in Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience with PowerBI or other visualization tools a plus.
- Highly motivated and proactive, anticipates what should be done to drive the business forward.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and take responsibility for all aspects of a task.
- Team player who is comfortable working in an entrepreneurial company.
- Proven ability to multi-task and work both independently and as a team player in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Willingness to learn new topics and work in an evolving business environment.
- Organized and detail oriented with big picture capability.
