The RN - Mentor shall be tasked to develop and implement a model for mentorship for nursing staff. The Mentor will serve as a role model, leader, consultant, collaborator, educator, and clinician. The Mentor shall collaborate with unit Educators, Preceptors, and Nursing Leadership to assess the needs of clinical nurses. This individual shall participate in the delivery of new clinical staff orientation. As a member of the nursing team, the Mentor will establish a setting that supports professional nursing practice and empowers nurses to provide safe, effective, compassionate, and efficient nursing care in collaboration with all health care disciplines.
This individual will make rounds to meet with clinical nurses to provide guidance and oversee less experienced nurses and to help facilitate their career development while providing training to aspiring nurses, nursing students, or licensed staff to help ensure provision of safe care and ease transition from advanced beginner to competent clinical nurse. The Mentor shall prepare and deliver nursing related education lectures and case studies to assigned nurses. Additionally, the Mentor will provide patient care in areas where needed to assist the unit and nursing team. The Mentor will also collaborate with Directors and Management to determine other necessary functions which will optimize patient outcomes and mentorship for the nursing team. This position may have additional duties assigned as needed.
Education / Experience:
Degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred, MSN highly preferred. Minimum 5 years of medical surgical, intensive care, or specialty nursing clinical and/or teaching experience in acute care.
License / Certification required:
Active RN licensure, BLS required, Additional certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, other specialty certifications) may be required depending upon unit assigned.
