The Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice Manager will support and coordinate aspects of the global practice in pursuing operational effectiveness, profit maximization, and innovation in service delivery, matter management, and pricing. This individual will play a leadership role in profitable growth of the practice group's business and revenue, ensuring client satisfaction, promoting thought leadership, expanding client relationships, and improving internal communications. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted adviser to practice group partners to assist them in achieving business goals and performance metrics. This position reports to the Global Head of Cybersecurity and Privacy and will take an active approach in managing and supporting initiatives and being recognized as the point of contact for the Global Head.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrate a client service delivery focus with the ability to professionally communicate and deal with people at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Lead efforts to monitor performance, improve and develop solutions.
- Develop/meet annual revenue and production budgets and targets.
- Track and manage the Group calendar and ensure that all meetings are arranged, agendas set, and events are organized.
- Track and monitor performance, hour and revenue metrics and report to Global Head and Partners.
- Oversee billing and collections - where required, acts as "quality control" for invoices on cross-border and global matters to ensure that they are delivered to the client accurately.
- Monitor performance of accounts receivable, billings, time entry, etc., and monitor profitability of significant matters with innovative pricing arrangements.
- Support LPM on client budgets, ensures phase and task codes are set up on global matters.
- Manage vendor contracts and engagement in matters.
- Work closely with Global Head to advise Practice Group partners.
- Support regular communications to Team Leaders (reminders, requests, deadlines, priorities).
- Assist in the development of individual partner business plans.
- Monitor partner performance and provide coaching to achieve performance improvement.
- Facilitate and troubleshoot to help Practice Group partners access services and interact with lawyers, business services and legal support across the firm.
- Lead strategic planning process engaging partners across Practice Groups.
- Ensure strategic action plan outlines to achieve firm performance goals.
- Monitor plan execution and regularly report on progress against plan to practice group leader, and adjust plan to ensure it remains relevant in light of changing market dynamics, economic climate and business trends.
- Oversee and actively engage in client development and relationship expansion strategies.
- Work with Business Development to organize global group events.
- Collaborate with Business Development in responses to significant RFPs.
- Engage in value proposition and pricing strategy development including managing strategic pricing for key client and client groups (e.g. insurance pricing).
- Participate in research and development to ensure Practice Group delivers best in class service offerings.
- Utilize feedback to develop and implement a meaningful client interview/feedback program.
- Develop/implement best client service practices and lawyer performance improvement.
- Oversee new business intake and provide firm-minded view of potential legal and business conflicts.
- Participate in on-boarding, integration and departure of lawyers.
- Manage hiring needs including identifying and addressing skill gaps and resource shortages.
- Review secondments and alternative work arrangements.
- Oversee workload balancing and work assignment.
- Understand and help the firm achieve strategic goals.
- Play lead role to increase practice group partners' understanding and engagement of firm's strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with the Group's administrative support/resources and other business services teams to ensure global objectives are met.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, or related field required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in strategic consulting, legal practice management or law firm administration.
- Experience in a professional services environment, preferably a large global law firm.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity, privacy and e-discovery practices is a plus.
- Client-service mindset with ability to collaborate across multiple time zones and cultures.
- Confident in interpersonal and group communications with senior leaders.
- Able to navigate a complex global firm to find answers and solutions.
- Excellent project management skills. Project management certification is a plus.
- Strong written, editorial and oral communication skills with demonstrated experience writing compelling content for business communications, presentations, and marketing material.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Understands the need and has the ability to manage expectations.
- Ability to leverage various internal systems (Epoch, BOBJ, Bbi, Launchpad).
- Sound working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
