The Municipal Research Analyst job conducts credit research on bonds issued primarily by state and local governments, not-for-profit organizations, and other issuers in the municipal bond market. Under limited supervision, this job analyzes financial and legal documents, conducts sector and competitive analysis, and prepares written reports related to municipal credits. This job contributes to the overall success of the Municipal Research Team by conducting credit analysis, writing credit reports, staying current on sector trends, and communicating with other analysts and portfolio managers regarding changes in credit opinions. The Research Analyst Municipal job also participates in team-wide initiatives.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Conducts fundamental credit research on municipal issuers and develops written and oral reports articulating and supporting credit opinion.
- Conducts sector research and is up to date on sector trends impacting muni credit.
- Conveys credit opinions to the portfolio management teams through written reports and presentations.
- Attends industry conferences and conducts site visits as necessary.
- Implements and enhances research procedures and analytical techniques within the Municipal Research Team.
- Participates in team-wide projects and initiatives as instructed.
- Uses and incorporates new technology, data management, and analytical tools to support municipal research initiatives.
- Follows team best practices under the direction of more seasoned analysts.

- Municipal credit analysis experience
- State and local government and/or education credits experience
- Master’s degree or CFA
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Creditscope and Bloomberg is a plus. Computer coding skills and knowledge of Python a plus.
- Strong analytical skills. Exceptional problem recognition and resolution skills. Advanced mathematical, financial statement analysis, and accounting skills.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written). Ability to work within a team, as well as complete projects independently.

Base Pay Range
$90,000/yr. - $125,000/yr.
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
