THE OPPORTUNITY:
This full-time position serves as the primary administrative and programmatic leader for Radio Station KRSM and includes expanding, developing, managing the day-to-day operations, marketing and producing the KRSM station. The station manager will be responsible for general operations, financial management, content development and staff/volunteer management of KRSM. To perform this job successfully, you must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily.
THE ROLE (Essential Functions):
- Manage General Operations of the Radio Station
- Market and Promote KRSM to the Community
- Respond quickly to problems in KRSM programming or transmission
- Respond to listener correspondence
- Ensure KRSM and all on-air content are compliant with FCC rules and regulations and all music licensing companies
- Maintain and add to studio equipment, transmission equipment, remote recording equipment, training equipment, automation software, streaming software and audio editing software
- Contribute to Pillsbury United Communities through participation at Waite House, Narrative team, Leadership Council and PUC meetings and initiatives
- Develop and Maintain the On-Air Content of the Radio Station:
- Program radio content daily
- Oversee the ongoing creation of public service announcements, station announcements, and short-form radio content
- Oversee the music library and regularly add to it
- Respond to new show applications
- Monitor quality of on-air content
- Evaluate and recruit hosts to fill holes in existing programming
- Manage and share archives of all KRSM programming
- Budget Administration and Financial Management:
- Manage program budgets, authorizing expenses and ensuring that financial tracking bookkeeping and control systems are in place and followed
- Monitor program income and expenses to ensure a balanced budget
- Raise funds through advertising sales, contract work, underwriting, grants and membership and individual donation drives
- Administer KRSM related grants, i.e., grant-writing to implementation to reporting, fulfilling requirements set by the funder and agency
- Solicit and fulfill KRSM contract work, from selling the service to engaging hosts/contractors to provide the service, to communicating with partners and ensuring quality of services delivered
- Work with PUC development department to identify and pursue new funding sources
- Provide required reports to executive staff and funders, and ensure their timely submission
- Manage and Develop KRSM staff and Volunteers/Hosts:
- Recruit and manage a large group of volunteers who serve KRSM in multiple capacities including: hosting radio shows, updating and adding to the KRSM music library, helping with ongoing programming, supporting contract work and recruiting new members and hosts
- Recruit and maintain ‘keyholder’ hosts who help provide access to the KRSM studio to other hosts – ensuring compliance with Waite House and Park Board building policies
- Train new hosts and volunteers in KRSM processes, technical programs and station values/identity
- Create additional ongoing training opportunities for existing hosts
- Meet with hosts and volunteers regularly to communicate about KRSM and assess and address their needs
- Develop and maintain formal policies and procedures for providing program services
- Secure Pillsbury United Communities’ position as community builders co-creating enduring change toward a just society where every person has personal, social and economic power.
- Work in collaboration with the PH+T Senior Directors to develop vision and strategic plans for the radio station and to align KRSM with the overall PUC narrative work
- Initiate and develop relationships with internal Agency leadership, key influencers, other arts education organizations and external stakeholders to increase the visibility of KRSM and PUC and to identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Contribute to a positive working climate at the radio station, center and agency level.
- Attend program, center and all agency staff meetings and actively contribute ideas, feedback and solutions; expect the same from supervisees, supervisors and co-workers.
- Be available to serve on various agency task forces if/when requested
- Responsible for recruiting, working with and supervising volunteers and/or projects in addition to KRSM volunteer corps
- Support Agency initiatives and projects like Greater Together
- Coordinate KRSM activities & services with other PUC and Waite House programs
- Complete tasks necessary for the agency to fulfill its commitments and mission
YOU WILL HAVE:
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Media or in another relevant field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Two years of supervisory work experience.
- Work experience in programs’ main focus areas.
