Position Summary
Washington University in St. Louis seeks an advancement professional for the position of Senior Associate Director of Advancement supporting Siteman Cancer Center and the School of Medicine through individual donor and grateful patient/family giving.
The Siteman Cancer Center Advancement team is responsible for raising private support for cancer research, education, and community program priorities across Siteman Cancer Center and Washington University School of Medicine.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement, the Senior Associate Director will manage a caseload of leadership giving prospects and donors to support the cancer center and cancer programs across the School of Medicine.
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Associate Director will focus on building meaningful relationships to grow the leadership and major gift pipeline, increasing annual fund and unrestricted support to Siteman and the School of Medicine, and working in collaboration with and in support of colleagues across the University and Medical Advancement.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
This position will focus on acquisition, retention, and reacquisition of prospects ($25,000 – $249,000) with a primary focus on increasing unrestricted giving and multi-year commitments. The Senior Associate Director of Medical Advancement will qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward assigned prospects and donors with the goal of increasing the donor’s support to leadership and major gift levels.
The Senior Associate Director will be responsible for:
- In partnership with fellow Siteman advancement gift officers, identify potential fund donors through grateful patient faculty referrals, 3rd party events, university activities, annual fund, etc.
- Manage stewardship and solicitation strategies for assigned prospects.
- Articulate the need for support of Siteman Cancer Center/WUSM’s unrestricted funds and priority needs through oral and written communications.
- Through collaborative activities with fellow gift officers, engage faculty in donor cultivation and stewardship activities as appropriate to further cultivate and develop leadership giving interests and relationships.
- Responsible for drafting advancement correspondence for signature by faculty members, advancement staff and/or cancer center leadership.
The Senior Associate Director of Advancement will help to create and foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork that celebrates outcomes, builds individual and team capacity, and ensures that WashU UA is a preferred workplace.

Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree
- Work Experience: Relevant Experience (3 Years)
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively within a complex organization across multiple units dealing with diverse constituents (school deans, administrators, alumni, students, university-wide advancement staff and key volunteers) toward development objectives and building effective working relationships.
- Experience soliciting gifts of $10,000 or more.
