The Opportunity
The Senior Consultant has primary accountability for providing strategic oversight to assigned and new public sector client relationships that has the effect of maximizing the Company’s revenue and profitability potential in its advising and servicing of such relationships. The Senior Consultant is broadly knowledgeable about the consulting services in the public sector market, and viewed as a valued resource and trusted advisor to both colleagues and clients given his/her strong analytical skills and ability to develop concepts and approaches to problem-solving and effectively communicate complex subject matter. The incumbent remains knowledgeable about Segal’s full-range of consulting services and uses this knowledge to manage and influence a significant volume in revenue that crosses multiple practice areas. The incumbent is skilled at leading large and complex, multi-disciplinary project teams. The Senior Consultant demonstrates leadership by being a trusted advisor to both clients and colleagues, leading and participating in initiatives to grow and manage a significant volume in revenue through direct and cross-selling efforts.
The Role
The Senior Consultant is accountable for project planning, managing and overseeing the delivery of consulting services to public sector health plans and performs as the lead consultant on select client relationships, being influential with and advising clients on the strategic and more technically complex plan issues. Key responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
- Performing as the project manager on assigned projects accountable for planning, budgeting, controlling, delegating, quality assurance and delivery.
- Contributing technical expertise on consulting projects to include providing complex analysis and applying this technical expertise in ways that reflects understanding of client needs/issues and effectively responds to agreed upon client objectives.
- Performing as the lead contact for select public sector clients on all practice related matters.
- Consulting directly to assigned public sector clients on practice related matters to include design, financial and regulatory aspects as applicable.
- Leading and/or supporting new business development efforts and cross-selling initiatives.
- Mentoring and providing technical guidance to other professional staff in the practice.
Qualifications
The qualified candidate must have:
- Undergraduate degree; a minimum of twelve years of experience within an employee benefits consulting and/or related professional services firm or in a corporate environment involving significant exposure to health plan strategies, concepts/approaches, design and implementation;
- Minimum EA/ASA accreditation (FSA preferred).
- Sufficient experience within a consulting firm or professional service environment to have attained stature and recognition for professional and technical competence, business leadership skills, and impact.
- Strong familiarity of multiple employee benefits and/or other service offerings.
- Demonstrated experience and success in managing client relationships either on a primary or secondary basis.
- Demonstrated track record of success in leading / participating in business development activities and other initiatives designed to grow revenue and profitability.
- Large and/or complex/interdisciplinary-oriented project management experience.

The current salary range for this position is $150,500 to $200,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
