The VP of Environmental Sustainability will implement and maintain a consistent and coordinated national approach to integrating Environmental Stewardship practices into future and existing developments, operations, and locations. Manage the Environmental Sustainability staff and guide other work teams to assure the goals and work plan are achieved in a timely and effective manner. Recommends, vets, implements, and maintains a strategic plan regarding organizational execution of consistent environmental practices. Track progress toward environmental goals. Serve as the internal and external face of Mercy Housing Sustainability Program.
Preference for candidates based in Denver, CO or San Francisco, Sacramento, or Los Angeles, CA.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
Pay: $130,000 per year + Sign-on bonus: $6,500

Duties:
- General
- Manage the integration of environmental stewardship principles, policies, and procedures into the organization.
- Develop and implement programs in all areas of organization operation including property operations, asset management, real estate development, resident services and facilities management and maintenance.
- Build strong, collaborative working relationships with other Mercy Housing (MHI) departments to assure clear communication regarding pertinent activities.
- Lead work groups identified to carry the goals of the environmental program. Develop controls to ensure outcomes are achieved nationally.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ten (10) years of experience developing and implementing resource conservation (energy, water, carbon, waste) programs and projects; Preferably two (2) years of which is within housing development or real estate environments.
- Experience leading a team of employees.
- Experience in multiple geographic regions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with greenhouse gas accounting, building performance benchmarking, green building certification standards, policy analysis and strategic planning.
- Experience overseeing an Energy Performance Contract and implementing.
- Experience negotiating and overseeing contracts with vendors and service providers.
- Two + years of experience implementing discrete retrofit projects in commercial, residential or multifamily buildings.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree
- Strongly Preferred: Master’s degree.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Creative thinker with effective facilitation skills and works collaboratively both independently and in groups.
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation skills), including clearness, conciseness and understand the populations served in Mercy Housing communities.
- Prioritize conflicting priorities and issues to identify underlying causes.
- Basic understanding of affordable housing financing models, split incentive and how they impact potential cost savings (e.g., HUD versus LIHTC).
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
