Summary of Job Duties: The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) serves as a behavioral health provider within the Patient Centered Medical Homes in the UAMS Primary Care Clinics. This position is responsible for providing direct patient/family care, as well as engaging in program development and interdisciplinary team development and additional departmental duties. The BHC functions as an integrated member of the PCMH and assists in managing the overall health of the enrolled population through improved recognition, treatment and management of psychosocial/behavioral problems and psychosocial aspects of medical conditions. BHC providers will demonstrate competency in providing brief evaluations, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, as well as other evidence-based/evidence informed interventions, to individuals, families and groups, to address behavioral health issues, chronic and acute physical health conditions and substance abuse conditions.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field required from a CSWE program
- Licensed by the state of Arkansas Social Work Licensing Board as an LCSW or LMSW
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in health care setting
- A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience or 1 year as an Intern at UAMS

Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, psychiatrist, or licensed certified social worker, provides psychosocial assistance to patients and families in the areas of financial challenges, local housing, transportation, food, and prescribed medications.
- Intervenes in crisis situations to assist clients and conducts assessments to determine needs.
- Assists patients and families with education, coping strategies, adjustment to disease, grief response, and acute or chronic mental health issues.
- Investigates child abuse or neglect cases and takes authorized protective action when necessary.
- Refers clients to community or social service programs and educational or work programs.
- Organizes patient support groups and serves as an advocate for patients within the community.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
