Responsibilities
Friends Hospital is the nation's oldest private psychiatric hospital, located on a beautiful 100-acre campus in Philadelphia, PA. Friends Hospital offers a continuum of care including level of care assessments; specially designed inpatient units for adolescents, adults, and older adults; and a private residential rehabilitation program. Friends Hospital is easily accessed via public transportation and has free, safe, on-site parking.
Reporting to the Unit Medical Director, the Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for the medical and psychiatric aspects of admitting and treating a patient on a designated unit. The staff psychiatrist is responsible for the initial and continued assessment of patients and for their treatment. The emphasis in this position is ensuring the existence of an up-to-date treatment plan appropriate to the patient’s psychiatric and medical condition and psychosocial background and making sure that treatment proceeds in an effective manner in accordance with the treatment plan.
When required, the Staff Psychiatrist may be asked to perform a variety of professional assignments such as involvement in the admission of patients to Friends Hospital, covering for professional staff during vacation or, in the absence of the regularly assigned psychiatrist, appearing in court in connection with the involuntary commitment of a patient.
The work of the Staff Psychiatrist is evaluated by the Unit Medical Director on the basis of patients’ charts, progress of assigned patients, and statistical and anecdotal information.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited School of Medicine with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine supplemented by the completion of psychiatric residency training. Board certification or eligibility for Board Certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry or Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Psychiatry.
