When you join Design Group as a Process Engineering Department Manager, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world’s leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our Architecture/Engineering Process Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.
What You’ll Do
As our Process Engineering Department Manager, you will bring a blend of technical prowess in process engineering, strong leadership and communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage complex projects effectively. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the manufacturing process is not only designed efficiently but also aligns with the overall business objectives. You love the challenge of delivering high quality, on-time and on (or under) budget, complex design packages as part of an in-house multidiscipline engineering and architecture team.
In order to be considered to join our AEC Practice as a Process Engineering Department Manager, you must have demonstrated experience with delivery of process design packages for complex, multi-discipline, architecture & engineering design projects. Preferably for Food, Beverage, Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), or Life Science sector manufacturing clients.
- Strategic Planning and Conceptualization: Understand the overall objectives and constraints of the manufacturing process. Conceptualize the entire process flow, defining the stages of production and the requirements at each step.
- Design Oversight: Oversee the design of the manufacturing process, ensuring it is efficient, cost-effective, and meets all requirements. This involves the selection of appropriate technology and equipment, layout planning, and integration of various process stages.
- Team Leadership and Coordination: Lead and coordinate a team of process engineers, designers, and other professionals. This involves mentoring, assigning tasks, and facilitating collaboration among team members and with other departments.
- Technical Expertise and Problem Solving: Apply your deep technical expertise to solve complex engineering problems, make decisions on process design, and troubleshoot issues that arise during project execution.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure adherence to industry standards, environmental regulations, safety protocols, and quality assurance procedures is critical. Stay updated on relevant regulations and integrate these into the design and processes. Implement rigorous project quality reviews. Review and approve drawings for client and project needs.
- Documentation and Reporting: Develop comprehensive documentation for the process design, including process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and operating instructions, and present reports to upper management or stakeholders.
- Project Management: Ensure that the project stays on track, within budget, and adheres to timelines. Plan, budget, schedule, and monitor resource allocation for projects. Verify that onsite work is proceeding according to design by reviewing submittals, answering RFIs, and directing field visits.
- Client Development: Execute client development activities including presenting our firm's process capabilities, proposing technical solutions to meet client needs, and developing completed proposals.
- Risk Management: Identifying potential risks in the process design and execution stages, and developing strategies to mitigate these risks is a critical function.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders: Build relationships with the greater practice and market sector professionals including interfacing and integrating highly complex technical solutions across our firm-wide practices including facility, utility, process, automation (control systems integration), and construction management professionals.
- Professional Development and Training: Responsible for your own continuous learning and staying abreast of technological advancements, as well as training and developing your team.
What You’ll Bring
- A minimum of 10 years of process engineering design experience in cGMP, FDA, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a process engineering design manager (preferred).
- Experience developing process engineering designs for food and beverage manufacturing facilities, including process descriptions, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs.
- The ability to present process designs to new and existing clients.
- The ability to lead a process engineering design team.
- Subject-matter expertise in cGMP regulations and standards (preferred).
- Revit experience (preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proficiency in written and verbal technical communication including generating reports and conducting group presentations.
- A willingness to travel for project requirements including installation and start-up activities, client and company sponsored meetings, trainings, industry related seminars, forums, and conventions.
- A bachelor of science in chemical engineering from an ABET accredited institution (preferred).
- A professional engineer (PE) license (preferred).
