Chief of Neuroanesthesia Job Posting
Position Overview
The UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated neuroanesthesiologist for the role of Division Chief for Neuroanesthesia. This leadership position requires a candidate with exceptional expertise in neuroanesthesia, strong leadership and administrative capabilities, and a commitment to advancing clinical care, research, and education in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management: Oversee personnel and schedules for the neuroanesthesia faculty (currently 15 members). Ensure high-quality, patient-centered, and evidence-based perioperative care.
- Growth & Development: Foster a culture of growth within the division by creating opportunities for research, education, and quality improvement. Develop and support faculty members' professional development.
- Education: Teach residents and medical students, and contribute to University service, faculty meetings, Grand Rounds, and M&M conferences.
- Quality & Improvement: Participate in quality assurance programs, quality improvement initiatives, and research projects aimed at advancing neuroanesthesia and improving patient care.
- Collaboration: Build and maintain collaborative relationships with neurosurgeons, neurointensivists, interventional neuro-radiologists, neurophysiologists, and other professional groups within UCSF and nationwide.
- Professional Development: Stay updated with advancements in neuroanesthesia and related fields through continuing education and professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Medical Licensure: Must possess a valid California Medical License by the time of hire.
- Degree: Must hold an MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
- Training: Must be neuroanesthesia fellowship trained or have equivalent advanced training and/or experience in neuroanesthesia beyond that of anesthesia residency training.
- Leadership: Demonstrated exceptional leadership, administrative, and organizational skills.
- Academic Stature: National stature in academic anesthesia.
- Applicants’ materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The minimum base salary range for this position is $201,500 - $429,000. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation. The total negotiated salary for this position will include the base salary plus the negotiated component, determined at the time of offer.
