America's Test Kitchen is looking for a science-minded editor and food media professional to lead the Cook’s Illustrated (CI) editorial team. The editor in chief develops and executes the strategy for making iconic content that empowers home cooks through technique and science. The editor in chief is responsible for leading the team that produces content for Cook’s Illustrated magazine, Americastestkitchen.com, CI-branded social media channels, YouTube, and email.
In addition to managing the content creation process and leading the content team, the editor in chief is responsible for maximizing the impact and reach of the content across channels, with a particular emphasis on short- and long-form video.
This position reports to the Chief Content Officer, who leads the content teams that produce magazines, books, television shows, podcasts, videos, product reviews, online cooking school curriculum, and digital content.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Executes editorial vision for the brand
- Manages Editorial Director and Executive Food Editor
- Manages editorial process from story development through to page design (print) and digital expression across all channels
- Collaborates across the organization with key stakeholders in social, email, marketing, TV, and video as well as with the Chief Content Officer and executive leadership team
- Partners with the social and video teams to execute strategy for the brand that leverages and translates magazine content into compelling videos for internal and external channels
- Partners with digital teams to create content for Americasteskitchen.com
- Pursues opportunities to generate revenue, increase engagement with content, and find and convert new audiences
- Manages hiring and training process for the team
- Mentors staff and creates culture of inclusion and opportunity
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Strong writer and editor with significant catalog of food clips and/or cookbooks
- Solid digital publishing experience with track record of creating content that generates traffic and engagement
- Fluency in social media and emerging platforms
- Varied cooking background (cooking school grad or restaurant experience a plus but not required)
- Ability to speak confidently and with precision about cooking and food science
- Ability to assess recipes and provide directional feedback on how to evolve them to tell a better story and provide maximum utility for end user
- Ability to assess video content (short- and long-form) and provide clear feedback
- Strong communicator
- Experienced, thoughtful, inclusive leader (previous management experience preferred)
This position is located in our Boston, MA office in the Seaport district. It is the expectation that the person in this role will work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) in the office and 2 days per week remotely.
