Risk teams focus on giving the firm clarity on the risk profile of our activities and devise strategies to protect the firm's ability to serve our clients effectively.
Embedded in everything we do, risk management is key to effectively identifying, monitoring and anticipating the diverse array of risks the firm faces in serving clients and operating its global businesses, including credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk operational risk and model risk.
As a Risk Manager in core engineering, you will work with Risk colleagues, as well as key Legal, Compliance, and Business partners, in implementing and executing on risk assurance activities as part of our Enterprise Risk Management Program. The role includes enhancing our risk assurance standards and executing testing activities, including Prioritization, Annual Planning, Development of Testing Scope, Testing of Controls, and Reporting of Testing Results. Responsibilities include managing and tracking of control issues identified. You and the Risk Assurance team will be responsible for centralizing, enhancing and globalizing these disciplines and providing oversight on assurance activities carried out by localized or domain-specific teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Build out a strong team and define the strategy for risk evaluation across a broad landscape and lifecycles of technologies. The candidate will be expected to educate and communicate to stakeholders and the team on the direction and velocity of growth across our core functions.
- Review and Enhance policies, procedures and standards to ensure risk management best practices around Risk Assurance and Controls Testing are covered.
- Collaborating on relevant Risk Assessments with Risk colleagues to drive a best-in-class risk management program.
- Work with Domain Owners to identify new areas of risk and appropriate Key Indicators and ensure effective identification, quantification, communication, and management of technology risk, focusing on root cause analysis and resolution recommendations.
- Help contribute to governance and the facilitation of the execution of the Risk and Control Self Assessment (RCSA) as required by the enterprise risk management framework, including the assessment and appropriate approval of risk associated with business changes, and ensuring consistency of evaluation and remediation across core engineering.
- Proactively monitor and evaluate control effectiveness, identify gaps, and recommend enhancements to strengthen risk posture and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in performing a detailed analysis on the identification of issue root cause, partnering with control and process owners to recommend holistic corrective actions and improvements, provide check and challenge to ensure appropriate escalation in accordance with Issue Management and Escalation Policies.
- Assist in performing a detailed analysis to identify, assess, escalate, and manage risk exposures across Risk Categories (Operational Compliance, Strategic, Reputational, etc.), including material, emerging and concentration risks in accordance with enterprise Policies.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Goldman Sachs, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
- Liaise with Second Line and Audit on externally issued findings to ensure that findings are appropriate and remediations solve for the problem, mitigate the risk and are fit for purpose.
- Ensure that any control uplifts or findings creation mechanisms are fit for purpose and sustainable in nature.
This role requires an energetic self-starter that can liaise with stakeholders across business units and federation teams both regionally and globally. Familiarity with the concepts of operational risk, the firm's process flows and control environment combined with strong interpersonal and analytical skills and a penchant for problem solving are necessary for this role.
Qualifications:
- Experience developing and deploying a risk framework for a technology organization (Cyber, Resiliency, Technology).
- Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience working in operational risk, relevant revenue generating division, or a control function (e.g., Credit Risk, Compliance, Operational Risk, Finance/Controllers or Audit).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to present with impact and build consensus across senior stakeholder groups.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on delivery.
- Strong organizational skills (project management experience a plus).
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint - Tableau & SQL are a plus.
- Familiarity with enterprise risk management best-practices and controls.
- Quick learner who can thrive working as part of a cross-regional team and individually.
- Cyber Risk knowledge a plus.
Preferred:
- Experience developing data-driven monitoring and testing programs.
- Risk assessment experience for change management and process design.
