POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Financial Aid provides leadership and final accountability for federal, state and local financial aid programs including scholarships, grants, loans and work-study. The Director ensures compliance with federal and state laws including the Program Participation Agreement (PPA). The Director ensures equitable distribution of financial aid funds in compliance with government regulations and college policies. The Director creates and distributes financial aid reports required for continued funding of the college financial aid programs and as needed by the college administration. The Director ensures compliance with the qualifications for federal financial aid programs and select scholarships. The Director administers educational programs for current and prospective students and their families. The Director supervises the Financial Aid Office including planning, organizing, supervising, and budgeting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations for all financial aid programs. Clarify regulations that are unclear or appear contradictory.
- File and maintain the Program Participation Agreement (PPA), FISAP, and other required government reports. Review and revise yearly reference materials affecting the financial aid operation.
- Serve on the Enrollment Management Directors Planning Group, and the Student and Educational Services (SES) Managers Team. Consult College stakeholders on financial aid affecting students, faculty, and staff. Provide information and training to stakeholder groups.
- Maintain current knowledge of internal policies, procedures, and programs.
- Direct the Financial Aid Office staff and operation. Recruit, train, evaluate, and discipline financial aid staff. Address and resolve problems and challenges. Develop plans and evaluations for programs and projects. Provide an environment for teamwork within the department and with others across the college.
- Develop local policies and procedures compliant with governing bodies' requirements. Monitor and modify financial aid packaging in accordance with regulations. Set annual packaging guidelines. Oversee the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as well as the Return of Title IV funds processes.
- Monitor Financial Aid budgets. Coordinate student payments and financial aid disbursements with the College Finance Office. Coordinate internal reconciliation work and report internally as well as to reviewing entities such as auditors, program reviewers, and accreditation teams.
- Provide advice to students and families regarding financial needs, opportunities, academic success, and eligibility. Provide information and services to students, faculty, staff and external constituents. Verify eligibility for assistance, review and package aid for students. Address and articulate policies and procedures to ensure the equitable treatment of all students receiving financial assistance.
- Present financial aid presentations and community outreach activities. Review correspondence including follow-up letters, award letters, flyers, and general scholarship letters. Maintain high levels of customer service and student satisfaction in the Financial Aid Office.
- Supervise interactive new student orientation program that addresses financial aid processes and introduces student financial literacy.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and appreciation for diversity.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent knowledge and skills
- 3 – 7 years of position related experience
Additional Experiences Considered:
- Master's preferred or equivalent knowledge and skills
- 5 – 10 years of position related experience preferred
