Job Summary
The
Vice President, Tax is a senior executive position responsible for providing strategic tax leadership across all tax-related functions for the company and its subsidiaries. This role involves overseeing the preparation of tax provision computations and required disclosures, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and managing tax planning and research initiatives. The
Vice President, Tax will establish and maintain productive relationships with external tax advisors, as well as internal finance and operational stakeholders. Additionally, this position involves representing the company during tax examinations by various jurisdictions.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the
Vice President, Tax will lead a team of 25 professionals, guiding them in delivering high-quality tax solutions and maintaining efficient tax processes. The role is based in either San Diego or Dallas and offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring attendance in the office three days a week.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads all aspects of the completion of the quarterly and annual tax provisions and addresses any accounting issues as needed.
- Directs the preparation and timely filing of the US federal income tax return and state and local returns.
- Implements a process for sales tax and property tax compliance, including completion of sales tax and property tax returns, gathering information, and processing payments for the company.
- Directs the federal and state income tax/sales tax/payroll tax-related audits.
- Reviews the tax portion of the quarterly (10Q) and year-end (10K) consolidated financial statements filed with the SEC and works closely with other financial and legal department stakeholders on the overall 10Q and 10K financial statements.
- Maintains control procedures associated with tax reporting, including documentation of internal controls to support compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.
- Ensure tax procedures are sound and adhere to federal, state and local tax regulations.
- Lead tax planning initiatives to stay aligned with current and any new federal and state legislation surrounding tax practices.
- Partners with various departments in responding to federal and state income, sales and use tax and payroll tax notices received by various jurisdictions.
- Researches and implements any legislative changes that may affect the tax functions.
- Provides tax technical advice regarding all compensation related matters but specifically in those areas regarding staffing employees working away from their tax homes.
- Provides tax technical advice on all aspects of accountable plans
- Leads all tax aspects of M&A activities including federal, state, and local income tax issues, sales and use tax and compensation and related payroll tax issues and legal entity reorganizations based on the needs of the companies operation needs.
- Provides income, sales and use and compensation related tax advice to internal stakeholders taking into consideration all business, operational and system related issues.
Key Skills
- Technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP for not only ASC 740 and ASC 450 but strong accounting background in general and federal and state income, sales and use and compensation tax areas.
- Ability to provide business specific contextual income, sales and use tax, property and compensation tax advice taking into account business, operational and system information and knowledge.
Qualifications
Education & Years of Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 10+ years of work experience
- Big 4 and public company corporate tax department experience
Additional Experience
- Experience successfully completing the quarterly tax provisions
- Leading tax planning initiatives to stay aligned with current and any new legislation surrounding tax practices
- Experience leading tax audit and compliance programs in public organizations
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in an office/home office environment.

Pay Rate: $248,000 - $295,000
Final pay rate is dependent on experience, training, education, and location.
