PURPOSE
We are seeking an engineer who will be working on supporting grinding-related processes in a MEMS fab, being the owner of various metrology tools, and supporting CIP efforts. The ideal candidate should have a fundamental understanding of planarization process (focusing on grinding), and metrology equipment and its use in a production environment. The candidate needs to have experience in statistical process control (SPC), data mining (some SQL and coding skills needed), interpretation, and using data acquired to generate meaningful conclusions. Experience with process improvement and design of experiments (DOE) would be a plus. Knowledge and experience with photolithography, and electroplating would be a plus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical support for grinding process, and metrology. Support manufacturing with existing equipment and processes. Perform engineering analysis, troubleshooting/resolving issues daily in a MEMS fab environment, and daily tool health monitoring.
- Act as the owner of metrology tools in the planarization area.
- Install, qualify, and sustain grinding and metrology tools to expand capability and improve inline detection.
- Own the SPC for the planarization process; monitor, report, and act based on results to improve yield.
- A self-starter, able to proactively learn and offer ideas for improvement. Develop continuous improvement plans for existing processes and support equipment and process road-maps to meet the company's strategic plan.
- Collaborate closely with design, integration, reliability, and R&D teams. Facilitate the transition of new designs from development to high-volume manufacturing.
- Ensure proper documentation of process instructions.
- Assist in technical training for operation staff.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- A master's or bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent discipline (Ph.D. preferred).
- 3+ years experience working in the MEMS or semiconductor industry with direct experience in developing and/or supporting manufacturing processes.
- Experience with planarization and/or metrology process development, process control, and equipment maintenance.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Expertise in statistical process control (SPC), and data mining (SQL query and some coding skills).
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally to meet company and departmental objectives.
- Experience in statistical & design of experiment (DOE) methods and process improvement is preferred.
Experience in the specification of equipment, vendor evaluation, and procurement would be a plus.
The pay range for this role in Livermore is between $110,700 and $145,320. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
