What you will be doing
This is a position within the Legal Department that is held by a lawyer with strong legal skills and the ability to deliver business-oriented, effective and efficient legal services, project management, and strategic counseling on significant projects or matters for defined business or corporate clients for which he or she has overall responsibility (e.g., a discrete group within one of Cencora's business units or corporate functions) or in a particular specialty practice area (e.g., litigation, mergers and acquisitions, securities law, privacy law, health law, technology law, or employment and labor law).
This is a US based remote role.
- The lawyer in this role is responsible for the delivery of effective legal services to his or her clients.
- The lawyer may have management responsibility for one or more legal professionals and, if so, is required to be an effective manager of his or her reports.
- The lawyer is required to be adept at handling significant legal projects, matters, and issues and should have very good to excellent technical legal skills and expertise.
- The lawyer should have very good to excellent project management skills because the Assistant General Counsel role often requires the lawyer to take on mixed legal and business responsibility for, and project management of, contracts or other matters that the client group wants to pursue.
- The Assistant General Counsel should be able to represent Cencora and his or her relevant client groups on significant business contracts or other matters, frequently leading or having an integral role in both legal and business negotiations.
- The Assistant General Counsel should have strong decision-making capability and be proficient in making business-oriented yet legally compliant recommendations to clients.
- The Assistant General Counsel is expected to solve both straightforward and complex problems and take a new perspective on existing solutions.
- The lawyer should be able to juggle multiple matters and effectively multi-task and prioritize tasks to ensure that work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- The Assistant General Counsel will effectively work in the midst of change and is willing to shift priorities and focus.
- The lawyer will seek out challenging tasks and assignments, engage in frequent development discussions, and be open to feedback.
What your background should look like
- The lawyer is expected to have a minimum of 10 years of experience as a lawyer combined with expertise in pharmaceutical law, contracts and commercial law, and health law.
- Law Degree - must be a graduate of an accredited law school and admitted into the state bar.
- The lawyer is comparable to a counsel, non-equity partner, or service partner in a law firm and can do sophisticated work as an individual contributor and/or supervise and project manage other legal professionals or teams.
- Strong background in the pharmaceutical industry's laws (including Anti-Kickback statute, False Claims Act, DSCSA, 340B), concepts, practices and legal procedures.
- Significant knowledge of healthcare, regulatory and corporate law including SEC, FTC and FDA regulations and procedures, litigation, anti-trust laws, and contract negotiation and preparation.
- Background working for a generic pharmaceutical manufacturer, pharmacy or healthcare company and serving as a strategic partner to internal business clients. Ability to lead negotiations, strategy development and implementation.
- Experience in the sourcing of generic pharmaceutical and private label products and working on related distribution and quality agreements. Market access experience with knowledge of state and federal drug pricing laws and 340B is a plus.
- The lawyer has the expertise and background to be comfortable supervising outside lawyers engaged to work on matters for Cencora, including outside lawyers from major law firms.
- The lawyer is expected to be knowledgeable in Cencora's business and industry policies, practices and trends and be aware of the competitive landscape.
- Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- The Assistant General Counsel will demonstrate very good to excellent communication and information sharing with all levels of associates.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Excellent judgment and ability to resolve complex issues effectively.
- Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills; attention to detail.
- Ability to follow and interpret legal trends.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
